I wanted to tell everyone I got a great deal on an A7RIII from Bedford Camera.†

Sony sale 2200.00, Bedford gave an extra 500.00 and my A7RII brought an extra 475!

Only problem is I bought another camera bag as well LOL I have enough bags for all Oklahoma now†:-)

I cant wait to use it. Im learning all the differences now.

Any pointers would be appreciated

Congratulations! It's a great camera. It's what convinced me to go all in on the E-mount.

I guess learning how to customise the buttons for your own personal style would be the most important.

Congrats! Great camera and even greater deal! They gave you an extra $500. Wow! I purchased my A7rIIIa a couple months ago -- also a good deal but not as good as yours! I'm very happy with the camera so far. Indeed, you will need to set up all the customer functions to your liking.
You make wish to look at Mark Galer's recommended customizations. The 42 Mp sensor is all the resolution I need and more. Its an excellent sensor.
I added a RRS bracket to mine which adds a little more height to the grip. I have one on my A7III as well and I can swap the L bracket portion when needed between cameras.
Sony has the price reduced on the A7riv as well for anyone interested. Perhaps Sony is preparing to introduce a new version? In any case I'm happy with what I have!

Ok, I put the human/animal eye setting in the FN menu. If you leave it on Animal eye, you will get messages that other functions are disabled.
And it won't give you eye focus for your cat unless set to Animal. You can also put in in the favorites menu or a custom function if you take a lot of cat photos.

Good advice - put it in the Fn menu on my A7r4 and A6400!!!

I am sure I saw a Philip Bloom video showing his cats perfectly in focus in the human setting

I'm not familiar with Philip Bloom. I can only tell you my experience with my A7rIIIa FW ver. 1. To get focus confirmation with a cat, the camera must be set to "animal". Now it may very well focus fine in "human", but for me it would not give a confirmation, little green box on the eye (of course whether it is actually in focus in another matter). Of course I was able to get my cat in focus with my film cameras back in the day. There are a lot of variables involved in getting good focus on an animal. See Mark Galer's YouTube videos on the A7riii and also focus modes. Also don't know if there are any differences in focus operation between the A7rIII and A7rIIIa. My camera behaves a bit differently than my A7III with AF. For example in some AF modes I get an expanding green focus area box than I have never seen with my A7III (FW ver 4) Couldn't tell you if it is by design or if one camera is malfunctioning. Both camera focus great.

Philip Bloom is a DP | Director | Filmmaker who worked for (among others) the BBC and has an interesting YouTube presence, but mostly about video.

I do not think it was with the A7r3 but with another camera. And indeed, they all behave slightly different.
