@Biggator: A strong line, David, but it does not lead to a subject. Please try again.

P.S. You will need to complete the soft focus assignment before going on to another.

Am really intrigued by this assignment; it's definitely got the grey cells working!!!

I took this image of a lighthouse bulb last week as the composition fascinated me. Now I'm wondering if it is because of the "Leading Lines" idea that it caught my attention or maybe I've missed the brief!

@Blue-Eyed Monkey: The composition, may be interesting, but the bulk of the lines lead to the out-of-focus area in the center, not to the subject (light bulb). Please try again.

Cheers... Brian

My second (hopefully more successful) attempt! I'm not sure whether the horizontal lines distract or enhance the effect so any thoughts are gratefully received.

@Blue-Eyed Monkey: Sorry, Glen, the competing vertical and horizontal lines are not helping to focus attention on the flower. Please try again.

Cheers... Brian

Thanks for the feedback, I did think that was the case but have been out with Leading Lines in mind again.

These are my latest efforts (sorry to keep bombarding you but the challenges have really set my brain racing!)

Taken with A65 - Sigma 18-50 2.8 - 1/100s f/14 ISO100 18mm
Colours aren't great but the clouds came over just as the boat came into shot.

Taken with A65 - Minolta 50mm 1.7 - 1/100s f/11 ISO100 50mm
Worked better in B&W rather than the brown mud of Thames

@Blue-Eyed Monkey: Both are passes. Well done, Glen. The road in the first leads nicely to the boat. The second is an unusual example, but it works for me.

Cheers... Brian

I think the wave line leading to the goose (swan?) is an unusually nice example--not only of a leading line, but capturing the shot at just the right moment.
    Later,

    Jerry.

Thanks very much - I am learning the virtues of patience and perseverance when it comes to photography. Am used to snapping my children before they rush off to the next thing so it's a new experience!!!

Assignment 2 - which I found far more taxing than I anticipated. I saw so many lines leading nowhere! So I settled on an one that I've taken manu times before, if not from quite this perspective.

Donnington Castle

Sony A58, Minolta 28-105xi @28mm; ISO 100; Aperture priority 1/100s f13, JPG in camera. Handheld, autofocus, steadyshot on. No cropping, a bit of gamma correction.

Thanks Brian - on to assignment 3. I also had that one in mind while I was at the castle.
