Okay, another shot at part B.

All taken with a Tamron 16-300mm on my A58.

Having problems posting the right images!

Try again!

All taken with a Tamron 16-300mm on my A58.

Original position 70mm

Closer in 35mm

Original position 16mm

Further away 35 mm

Certainly a far clearer idea of the perspective change in these - but matching the framing was a nightmare!

@Phil Wood: Well done, Phil! Framing is, indeed, difficult... which is part of the point of the assignment The key is to try to match the size of the central subject and let the periphery go where it will. You get a larger sense of the surroundings with the shorter lens and a larger field of focus. Now, on to your next assignment.

Cheers... Brian

Thanks again Brian - hopefully Silhouette will be less problematic, though 'perfectly executed' is an interesting caveat.

Okay, let's go, I'm in a flow... However, got a lasting cold, which holds me home from time to time. Therefor some interior shots today.

Part A: Telecompression

Original Teleshot (203mm)

Cropped WA (24mm)

Part B: Zooming with your feet (actually my butt, as I was sitting on the floor )

First shot @24mm

Second shot @50mm

Third shot @98mm

I'm sorry, my horizon is a bit tilted and the horizon is shaking a bit vertically. My little tripod is not very stable.
All settings, except time, are maintained equal for all shots (f5,6).

Part C to follow.

@Harm vb: Part A is a "clear" (pun intended) pass. The extra DoF on the WA is expected since, DoF is inversely related to the square of focal length at the same aperture and distance from the subject. In order to make the images identical, you would have had to have a remarkably fast WA lens.

For Part B, the objective is to maintain the same field of view with each lens (i.e., the objects at the edges of all three photos should be be the same). It is easier if your first shot is at 50mm and moved closer to the subject for the 24mm shot and further away for the 98mm shot. If the camera is moved along the line exactly perpendicular to center of the first photo, you should be able to get all three photos to have a (more) similar field of view (left-to-right and top-to-bottom). Please try Part B again.

Cheers... Brian

Mmm, in my post-processing (i.e. the cropping) I have even counted the wooden bars on which the items are displayed.
I must solve this in PP...

Harm, While it is a "basic" assignment, it is one of the more difficult to execute. You are almost there. A bit closer on the 24mm and a bit further away with the 98mm and you'll have it. The trick is to find the distance that lets you achieve a very similar FoV in all three shots.

Cropping is not advised since the rules state, "one dimension crop and minor straightening allowed (to allow different aspect ratios, but don’t crop in both directions)" and this assignment implicitly requires that the aspect ratio be the same with each focal length.

The left side of your image at 24mm includes a window frame and more railing than in the other two. I don't think that the stability of your small tripod is the issue. Your camera appeared to be level and the subject was in the center of each frame. Finding the correct distance from the subject will be the key.

Cheers... Brian

OK, I'll give it a try soon.
I focused on the size of the bottle, so this was the result.

Ok, my retry...

50mm original position:

A bit closer to get the same framing. I marked the left hand side by the socket, the right hand side by the candle.

And at 100mm (short end of my 100-400mm.

I hope that I understood this part correctly.

Ok, and for the third part.

I used my 50mm so I'm getting the feeling for next week...

Just stopped for the subject: the gatehouse (Dalempoort).

A lantern, strange leading lines. Not my best shot.

Then, I stepped to the right after studying the view on my wet screen.

Much better, I guess: leading line from the corner, sucking the view to the end.

I hope Brian agrees.
