I am waiting to get some batteries for my ring flash... I'll try on some macro-shots.
Fingers crossed. |

No macro-shots, but my city.
The non-flash view ![]() Sony ILCE-7M3 FE 50mm F1.8 f/8.0 50.0 mm 1.3s 1600iso Flash (off, did not fire) And with a fill-in flash. ![]() Sony ILCE-7M3 FE 50mm F1.8 f/8.0 50.0 mm 1.3s 1600iso Flash (off, did not fire) (Exif incorrect) Maybe not the best composition, but I was glad the flash worked anyway. But, the flowers in the foreground are creating depth, and I think that was the purpose. |

Hi Harm,
After a discussion with other AMAEs, I am going to ask you to try again. There is added depth to the image, but the stark difference in white balance between the illuminated and background portions of the image are just too far apart. Fill-in flash should be more subtle and enhance the image without altering it substantially. Please try again. Cheers... Brian |

Yeah, you're right
![]() But as my Hot shoe-adapter is stuck in my HVL36-flash, it will be difficult. Can I leave this one and go for an other, u til my flashes both work? |

Will the HVL36 still work as a slave using it as an optical remote receiver?
While it might help to have a remote flash for this assignment, it is not a necessity. Most flashes emit light at 5500 Kelvin. On-camera flash should work fine for a back-lit subject (or subject in a shadow) in a scene between 5000 and 6000 K. You might have to adjust the flash compensation down a bit avoid overexposing the subject, but it can be done. Please give this assignment another go. If your equipment has broken since you took the prior photo, we can bend the one at a time rule until it is repaired. Cheers... Brian |

Two flashes with one set of rechargeable batteries... Difficult, difficult.
The HVL isn't broken any more since an hour or so: just used the unlock-button, which I didn't know it existed on this flash ![]() Ok, I'll give it another try, but flash operation is very difficult for me ![]() Fingers crossed... Edit, an hour later. The Chinese Cheap ring flash doesn't transmit his data to the Exif-data of the photograph. Ok, no flash at all. ![]() Then, Full flash. ![]() Then, a moderate flash executed by removing the ring flash away from the subject, moving to the left and downgrading the force by -1,5. ![]() To be complete, a kind of "making of" however the ring flash is in the position of the full flash (second shot). ![]() Wish me luck ![]() Edited by Harm vb - 20 December 2021 at 15:44 |

@Harm vb: That's the spirit! and a pass
![]() The -1.5 flash compensation is the clear winner. The exposure and white balance of the background are nearly identical with/without flash and that is the effect we are looking for. Cheers... Brian |

Thnxs Brian, your remarks in the fail-post led to the final execution with its pass.
