@MacManus: Sorry for the delay, Christophe. There has been quite a bit of discussion on this one. All of the respondents liked the photo, myself included. The assignment states, "Take a shot that relies upon a strong and vivid primary colour (RGB or CMY) as a major compositional element. It doesn't have to be the only colour in the frame, but it has to be the main one, that everybody immediately associates with it."
The two primary reservations were that the yellow was a bit off (imbalance between red and green channels) and that the yellow was a background rather than a characteristic color of the subject (i.e. shadow). In the end, you have a strong and vivid color (close to yellow) that is a strong compositional element in the photo. For that you get a pass.

Cheers... Brian

@thornburg: thanks for the comments. Marks were scratches on the wall. Ideally, I would have wanted to have none or to have much more!

@Brian: thanks for the feedback and the explanations! Yellow is too red-ish in my photo if I understand. Using the background for the primary colour, I knew I was at the edge of the assignment rules. Thanks for letting me pass
I'll proceed to another assignment, but will keep that one in mind and come back to it when I have the opportunity.

@MacManus: Very nice, Christophe! This one is a much stronger pass.

a77 minolta 50mm f/1.7 iso800 1/20

not sure if this is what we're looking for on this one, it's a bit different than the other examples in this thread but it's an iconic green

a77 spiratone 500mm, ISO 800, 1/3000

here's one I took at the zoo for this purpose, but after going over the thread I don't think this is quite what we're looking for.

@UncleLimpy: The first is not what we are looking for. While the color green is evident, it is an accent and not a color that one associates with a watch. If the watch had been all green, it would have been striking enough to set it apart and warrant a pass.

Your second image features a bird with an iconic color, but that color is not a primary color (RGB or CYM).

Please try again.

Cheers... Brian

UncleLimpy: Now that's what we're talking about!... a pass

Cheers... Brian

P.S. The image might have been improved with a wider field of view and depth of field.

Saw my son's wellies outside the back door and thought, Primary Colour Assignment. Am not sure if Dyxum is slowly taking over my life!!!

Anyway, my first attempts...

Sony A65 with Minolta 50mm F1.7, 1.6s @ f/3.5 ISO100, built in flash.

Sony A65 with Minolta 50mm F1.7, 15s @ f/8.0 ISO100, built in flash with ND1000 filter. Cropped from the right.

Both have had a very slight clipping of the blacks in Lightroom (-10) to bring them to life a little bit more.

@Blue-Eyed Monkey: That's certainly a primary color. I only wish there was more. There is not quite enough in #2. #1 is better, but both boots could have been in focus. I'm going to ask you to try again because I know that you can do better.

Cheers... Brian
