There's one simple reason - the price on the Sony 12-24. About 1700€'s that's not cheap for something you don't use that often. The 14-24 'll do fine for my needs - the 2mm extra means a lot - i know, but how often do we need 12mm on full frame?
Having the first gen. Sigma - i learned that i don't use it often at that width.
I do not see the need of anything wider then 16mm, so do not ask me

Cameranu has the new Sigma 14-24/2.8 listed for €1729,-, the Sony 12-24 is €1798,-.

In the states, yes, the Sony is $1700,- and the Sigma is $1400,-. I expected the Sigma to be cheaper then €1729,-: $1400,- is about €1250,-, add 20% VAT and it would be around €1500,- (Croatia and the Scandinavian countries have 25% VAT, that would be €1560,-).

I’ll be buying that sigma. Should be more versatile than the Sony with a wider appature. That’s of course if it tests out as good as the Sony. But I shoot between 18-28 mm often.

Digitarvike.fi lists this new Sigma 14-24 at 1 495,00 € (incl. 24% VAT), so that price on Cameranu isn't the pan-European price level. Their price on SEL1224G on the other hand is 1879 €.

Yeah, that makes much more sense!
