Andy,
That's a beautiful image to kick off with. Soft golden light glistening off the rocks and the sea.
As Fred suggested up the page, have a look at the huge array of themed views if you're looking for places to post your photos, not to mention all the other options like challenges and of course your own individual posts in Open Views as well.
Welcome, and keep them coming.
Joe

Hi Andy,

Cracking good start to Dyxum! Lovely composition and a fine balance of light and shade which is always a challenge with such direct light such as this. Love the pastel shades and the small details; the light on the rocks and those wispy clouds just adding a little bit extra to the scene.

As Joe says above, there's plenty of options to post in on here and many of them can hopefully serves as inspiration to try something different as well.

Take care and I definitely look forward to seeing more from you soon.

Best regards, Neil.

PS - It's been a very long time since we were last in that area; we lived in Colwyn Bay for 5 years in the 1980's and I worked just outside Llandudno. It's a wonderfully diverse area with Snowdon being the obvious draw but there's so much more to see and enjoy in the area - as you show us here.
My Mantra: "Comment on other's work as you would wish to have yours commented upon". Go on - it's fun!

Thanks for the positive feedback, it's much appreciated.

waldo_posth It's only taken me two and a half years to post it, though simple enough thanks to the instructions elsewhere on the site.
In my defence, I've recently acquired my eldest's old imac and finally feel confident in what I see on screen, whereas my laptop display never looked right.

Thanks for the welcome Brian. Glad you like the rocks. This is a great site, that I've lurked around for a fair while, feel relieved to have finally posted.

Thanks also, Joe and I'm pleased you like the image. As you say, so much to see and do here. As I said above, I now have a display that I 'believe', and will hopefully post more going forward. I'm fairly inexperienced with 'proper' cameras and an absolute beginner with regard to processing. Lots to learn.

Cheers Neil, this place is definitely inspiring, top notch photos wherever you look. I know the Colwyn Bay/Llandudno area pretty well. I had an Aunt who lived in Llandudno when I was young and visited many times, still try and go there at least once a year for a walk up the Great Orme and also to the end of the pier.

Anyway, I've rambled on long enough.

Once again, thanks for the comments.

Andy

Hello,

My first post to see if I've understood how to post images.

Taken with my A77v and a Minolta 35-105 lens.

Please feel free to comment.

Welcome to Dyxum, Ian! You clearly figured out the "how to post" part. It's difficult to keep from over-saturating red and you've done a good job. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Cheers... Brian

Hi Ian,

How to set the bar for yourself at a high level straight away....

Great image and you've held that potential over-saturation of the red very well indeed; it's the colour that 'challenges' Sony sensors but this is well controlled and has that unusual combination of delicacy and depth. The addition of the water droplets adds a very pleasing contrast to the image and 'lifts' it really well.

As I said, a high bar to start with so we will be looking for more like this soon!

Thanks for posting (and cracking the posting 'test'!) and best regards, Neil.

bms44974, Jozioau, Owenn01 and nandbytes. Many thanks for your warm welcome and praise for my efforts. I hope to maintain and improve on the standard of my first picture with help and guidance from the forum members. I'll be sticking with my A77 and a mount lenses for some time to come. They're all capable of taking great pictures. I'm the limiting factor.
