And so another Dyxum Challenge comes to an end. 31 images, 12 at 300 mm and 19 at 14 mm. The 31 images came from 14 sessions. I have done one month of Pic-a-Day in the past but I found out I hate it, it is too hard to go out and shoot something decent everyday of the week, particularly as most of the daylight is lost to office hours.

Pic-a-day achieved with 15 images at 24mm and 16 at 200mm, Variable quality, as is inevitable with pic-a-day as Pieter says but it got me out on days where I might otherwise have stayed in. I'll be glad to get back to the zoom option, I found 24mm generally too wide and 200mm too long

I've seen many great shot from all you fellow Octoberfest-gangers. TFS!
I've not finished just yet, pics from last 2 days are still on my cam. Travelling now, so it will have to wait. I love the concept of a 31 pic-a-day straight. I do not realy care if images work out nicely, the daily practice keeps me sharp for the moment I realy need to get out the cam quickly to capture a streetshot I like the Zeiss Loxia 35 over the Sigma 90i. Mainly beacause I of my prefrence of 35 mm angle over longer lenses. Makes me go closer to my subjects. Looking forward to mount up some of my other lenses now. Week 50 anyone ? |

Another Oktoberfest done and dusted, this time using set ends of zooms after having used all my primes over past years. 16mm end of CZ 16-35mm f2.8 Vario-Sonnar for days 1 to 15, and 200mm end of SEL70200GM2 for the second half.
Challenges are by their nature challenging, especially pic a day for 31 days straight, but it does get the participants out and about with their photographic gear to capture images that wouldn't have seen the light of day. Very enjoyable to see the entries posted from around the globe and in the opposite seasons North and South. Although I've left commentary to others this year I'll add something to my voting thread when that's up and ready. Thanks to all participants, and as testimony to the undoubted quality, there's been a good representation of Oktoberfest images in the weekly exhibitions over the month. |

Congratulations to all who managed to make it to the end. Sadly, I did not.
Some great images, with a few standouts I would like to mention: onsplekkie - Day 24 Excellent Portrait worthy of the cover of that Hemingway novel "The Old Man and the Sea" Snegren - Day 29 Graphic geometry at it's finest!!! alanfrombangor - Day 27 Another outstanding silhouette Robbie - Day 31 catchy, well executed editorial piece As for me. I tried to keep it interesting and was planning a "Team Sony" "Team Olympus" group shot but life got in the way. |

A bit of a struggle this year, but I managed to get a shot every day, albeit of varying quality. I used the 35mm far too much, but I do like that lens. While I like the challenge of shooting every day there was a lot going on this October and there were days when I sat down at the computer to review the day's shots fully expecting to find nothing vaguely suitable.
As ever I have enjoyed seeing everyone else's efforts with the usual envy at the quality of many of the images (and the Antipodean weather). And so to Week 50 ... |

I made it to the finish with a little belated end sprint.
Thanks for all the encouragement required at the end of a Challenge month. A few photos/photographers stood out for me. Jonas's makro effort, and in general his well-prepared shots of flowers and insects. (I remember having seen a selfie of you, but that didn't make it to the thumbnails?) snegren with an impossible lens, even making it to PotW Alanfrombangor who always manages to take beautiful and varied photos of his 'backyard' in the old slate industry and train stuff gregja who sees an abstract/subject in every nail he passes. onsplekkie who once again surprised me with several intimate and warm photos. The 35mm certainly suits you pegelli with a great variety of topics. Always in striking photos phil wood with funny shots and good captions LAbernathy: you did make it to almost the last day. Run out of cameras or out time? It's not that others didn't do very well, but I couldn't catch them under one umbrella |

I have actually downsized my "collection". I sold off the Minolta 7D, Sony a100, Sony a500, Sony a580, Sony a37, Sony a57, Sony a68, Olympus E-410, Olympus E-510, Olympus E-620 and Minolta Maxxum 7. I was looking to right-size further but there were no takers. The idea was to have only two mounts and two or three battery lines. It was time that I was short on. |
