Was it was worth going out for shooting in this chilly morning?

Good to see some pics up already - I'm afraid mine will have to wait until I get back from Canada..

Here we go...
As I see it, a month-long 'Week 50' type challenge with the entries, the out-takes, the thumbnails and the comments, with the big difference that it's held around the equinox so both the north and south hemisphere get the same amount of daylight |

Good start already, and I haven't even decided on my lens(es) yet .
We may have the same daylight, but the weather was pretty poor today |

I was planning to use the 10 mm on FF with long exposure filters but I lack the willpower to make the kind of sacrifice this takes. Not while I am refurbishing the kitchen. So I stick to what comes easy, the dreaded swirlies....

Frost leaf with the sun gently warming it.
Great start to the Oktoberfest, really like shots like this, spot on exposure with great composition. LandscapeLines, Like all the different shapes and lines created by the architecture and landscaping. New plaza 1, My favourite shot so far with excellent composition and well controlled exposure. Top Shot. Silver Gull at Brighton beach. Incredibly crisp shot and wonderful whites. Rocking horse's head Like the detail in the wonderfully worn horses head, background compliments it. Untitled by Nordlict Really like this, great composition and love the different hues. Don't worry, be happy. Whats not to like about a giant smiley! Does it have the same connotations to the clubing E-zee culture as in the UK? Reminds me of happy wild times! contemplating under the bushes Great use of light and shade and focus to create a great effect, going to have to google that lens! Day 1 - DONE!
Great start! It is going to be a great month!!
Talking about the weather, here also it starts to get a little chillier, as you can see: (It is Celsius, not Fahrenheit...) |

I'll try to post comments every few days through Oktoberfest.
Some Day 1 comments - added to as entries come in: @MiPr - lovely image of the finely frosted autumn leaf. Delicate texture and colours, set off by the low light angle. @BearairCactus - interesting image created with this lens - looking forward to some live birds next time. @onsplekkie - nicely composed and captured scene that is strongly evocative. @Gregja - strong composition, with the hard and sharply focused foreground dramatised by the sun flare. @Klick-Klack - gentle and even indoor light sets off this appealing antique rocking horse's delicate patina. @Nordlicht - a fine abstraction taking a commonplace material as its subject. @mariuszlo - would probably have benefited from more 'pop' if you'd have had a touch of sunlight. @angora - no missing the almost over the top Meyer Bokeh. A fine cat portrait. @alanfrombangor - nicely captured on the bend with the sweep of the bay as a backdrop. Looks a bit odd with two powerful engines pulling such a small load. @rovhazman - nice catch! Like the almost silhouetted boys with just enough light to make out some detail, and of course the shark and the exhaling scuba diver in the tank. @bigsi - an appealing image with its low viewing angle setting off the orange bench and its reflection. Those potted palms make it look tropical. @Phil Wood - a very engaging and natural portrait. Like the splash of red in the OOF background. @LAbernethy - beautiful low key seascape study with its subtle tones offset by that silver streak on the horizon. @ktrucke - a visual appealing image with the backlighting, the soft OOF background and the reflection. Perhaps better if the object wasn't cropped on the left margin? @mikey2000 - wonderful cloudscape from on high. Love the forms and the soft sheen of the reflected light. Wonder what it would look like with the blues turned down a notch? @minolta_mutley - nice snap - I would have liked to see it with the ice cream shop with the reflections in its window in shot as the background. @addy Landzaat - nicely captured snap of the cat on the wall, making eye contact. @Bob J - a candid snap of the waiting area of any airport in the world. Nice lighting. Edited by Jozioau - 07 October 2018 at 12:31 |

Pretty good start guys.
@Jozioau - amazing focus at f1.4 - is this the magic of eye detect in action? I really need to win the lottery and get an A99ii. @angora - bewildering Meyer bokeh, what they're all about I guess. I took delivery of a 50mm Oreston a few days back, haven't played with it much, but I'm not seeing the magic yet. |

Day 1 comments
MiPr - So colorful. Well-spotted. BearairCactus - Glad you stuck with Sony. Enjoy the challenge! onsplekkie - I like how the light sort of makes the grass pop. gregja - The flare makes this shot. Jozioau - I prefer the shot you chose even if the other hadn't been clipped. Klick-Klack - Excellent composition, focus and lighting. Nordlicht - I agree with your daughter. The angle adds a lot of interest. mariuszlo - Looks quite windy. Was it a challenge to get a usable shot? angora - The light makes Milo look like he's mischievious. alanfrombangor - Your location/composition choice enhance the sense of motion. rovhazman - Such a fun shot. I like everything about it. bigsi - But I see a lovely blue sky? :) Phil Wood - Beautiful portrait. Too bad about the red at the top. For me it distracts from your subject. LAbernethy - Such a moody shot. Perfect for the start of October. |
