End of June we spent a week in Tenerife with wife, kids and my new A7II. Out of the 1000 shots I ended up keeping, I will share with you some that will hopefully entice you to go there and see the island yourselves. All shot with the kit lens (surprised to see some f8/f9 less sharp than other shots wide open, so not quite sure what to think of this lens).

Day 1 - Loro Parque
This zoo has the only Orca show on the island (maybe the only one in Europe?) and also dolphin, sea lions and parrots shows.

Thanks for the comments. I have updated the post to indicate I used the kit lens. I have also had the Samyang 12mm f2 with me but found out that it did not focus at infinity on the A7ii, so did not use it much.

Fun series! Did you go up El Teide ? We did that one year ago and absolutely loved it!

Brian - Mt Teide was on day 3 (still reviewing/selecting my photos). Did you go all the way up at the volcano edge? We didn't as it required some permit that we should have applied for some 6 months in advance...

For now - day 2 - Los Gigantes and Masca

Los Gigantes are high cliffs that you can see from the sea as part of the dolphin/whale watching tours. We took a 2 hours ride and managed to see some dolphins (apparently whales are not seen that often)

9. On the way to the marina, I snapped this shot of one of the ships that offer these cruises (we took a smaller boat, as this one was fully booked)

On our way back to the hotel, we decided to visit the village Masca, not really knowing what was to be seen there. A decision that my wife heavily regretted as the road was 1.5 cars wide (there were some areas where one could stop to allow incoming traffic to pass, but not merely many or often enough). Also, our rental car was under-powered, so we 5-6 kilometers from the main road were driven in the 1st and second gear only.

Great stuff! I commiserate with your wife: we tried to make that trip in a similarly underpowered car and on one of the lookout points along the way I told my wife and daughter: we are turning around, there is no way I'm doing this whole journey both ways! I'm afraid of heights and that road freaked me out! Got a couple decent shots out of the lookout points, though. One shot I think may have been taken from the same exact vantage point as your photo 20 and which I really like your version of!

A fine set!
Thanks for sharing it - I have never been to Teneriffe (but I could share a story of an under-powered rental car on a steep gravel road, on another Canary island).

I especially like the story that is told by the first two images - members of the audience covering themselves with blue blankets! Imagination is much better than a video!

Looking forward to see more from the following days!

Indeed, the ones in the first few rows got a fair share of splash water, but they seem to enjoy it. Since it was only my second day with this camera, I opted for a safer distance...

Day 3 was dedicated to Mount Teide. The 3718m high volcanic peak can be seen from across the island, except from where it's cloudy/foggy (which was most days in the northern part of the island where we had our apartment). The road to the cable car was breathtaking...quite literally at some places, at Google Maps insisted in taking me on some "shortcuts" that made the previous day's trip to Masca seem like a leisure trip. So a word of advise - stick to the main roads, don't get fooled by the shorter time/distance and the good looking road (no gravel on the streets I took), as it quickly turns into a one way road and one can only hope no one else is using the road from the opposite direction. Enough talk - some photos now:

Day 5 - Aqualand (the more tame version of Siam Park). In addition to being a water park, they also had the best dolphin show.

Day 6 - Science and the Cosmos Museum and the Teresitas beach

The Science and the Cosmos Museum was a nice surprise - the were looking for something that would be interesting for both us and the kids and this is just it. Even if most of the exhibits has explanations in Spanish, by day 6 we were familiar enough with the language to understand most of what was presented.
