Yeh, sorry Fred, I got busy. I tune into that live stream every once in a while. It is impressive

to answer your question the no injuries thing just got broken ,a guy slipped while climbing out of his tractor and broke his ankle. But no major catastrophes actually working on the dam itself.

That really is impressive

It's BACK

the 1.1 billion$ main rebuilt spillway and Emergency spillway is now in use. I think much earlier than anyone expected
4 screenshots. 3 lake spillway live streams, 1 you tube

from the spillway top w the town of Oroville in the background

from the main floodgates

a you tube shot for context

the water release in these screenshots is at 8,000 cfs (cubic feet per second) At the height of the catastrophe water release, if I remember correctly was around 100,000 cfs on page 1. The spillway we are told has been built to accommodate 250,000 cfs (?)
Of course at the beginning of this maiden water release, there was plenty of speculation the whole spillway would blow up again

The snowpack in the Sierra Nevada's, where this northern California water complex gets its water is well over 150% of normal. Last year there was much wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth that due to climate change the new normal will be drought Forever

I wasn't planning on any addition, but this was too Kool!
This is a DWR (Department of Water Resources), the gov agency which owns the Dam, and ultimately the organization held responsible for the dams catastrophe, their drone update. It is the drone video of the opening of the spillway flood gates, and the 1st use of the billion$ rebuilt spillway

There are a lot of people right now puckering up, because there is more water content up in the mountains, than there was the year (2017) the main spillway and the emergency spillway both collapsed. And this is an untested spillway and untested emergency spillway.
I can almost guarantee, they won't say this, but this is the worst case scenario for the spillways opening.

They had a press conference before the opening of the gate and one of the things that was said, they are planning on a cfs of 40,000 to 60,000 at some time. The cfs in the in the photos above is 8,000 cubic feet per second. The DWR people took comfort, the spillway is built to the best of 21 century tech knowledge
If you've been keeping one eye on this continuing situation, or not, the short youtube (6 min) vid below is a must see

Must see Oroville spillway

Thanks for posting the spillway vid! Cool. Interesting to see the water flow in sheets like that in the beginning. Laminar flow visualized!

Also, I wonder why there are those deflectors installed at the bottom of the spillway. Turbulence is good?

Hi Josef, that's an impressive drone video!

I can only hope that the new spillway will weather the extreme climate conditions that are making themselves already felt. If there is any doubt about the increased risks - here is a website that is politically (almost) neutral - by a big reinsurance company. "Adapting to unavoidable environmental impacts" might be a real challenge - and I see the reconstruction of the spillway as a prime example.

BTW: Public schools and charter schools do not charge tuitions in the U.S., only private schools do (that might be the same in Denmark).
