Harau Valley
A relaxing one-hour drive from the bustling market of Bukittinggi in the province of West Sumatra lies the beautiful Harau Valley, - or sometimes called the Arau valley - where lush green ricefields are hemmed in between huge granite cliffs. Here dozens of waterfalls tumble down from 80 to 300 meters height into the valley below, cut by the Batang Arau River. No wonder, therefore, that the Harau Valley is sometimes known as the Yosemite of Indonesia.

Kelok 9
Kelok 9 is a highway connecting West Sumatra and Province of Riau, it’s the biggest fly over project in West Sumatra and the longest bridge in West Sumatra. Kelok 9 is famous for its hairpin turns.

Beautiful images of what appears to be a tropical paradise. I hope that it stays pristine for a long time. Spectacular scenery (and a great write up). Thanks for sharing!

I have to add that I love the way the images were processed. It's great to see a part of the world that we rarely get to see.

I just love the PP on these - the clash between the vibrant foreground and the muted colors of the background work very well for me. Following you on Flickr now (just to get to see these before you post on Dyxum )

Pacu Jawi, the cow race in West Sumatra, taking place in the Tanah Datar regency.

The festival of cow racing celebrates the end of rice harvesting season by the Minangkabau people in West Sumatra, Indonesia.

While the race has become part of Indonesian culture, the main purpose of the Pacu Jawi is for sellers to exhibit the strength of their cows to potential buyers. And competitors head off across the paddy fields attached to pairs of animals.

A good race performance can lead to generating a higher price for those farmers that plan to sell their breeding stock.

After each run the cows are cleaned and herded into a display pen for the buyers to make their choice.

The cows that run the fastest and straight till the finishing line are the winners. With their hands busy holding on tight, jockeys encourage their steeds to go faster by biting their tails.

A regular cow that’s bred for daily consumption costs about S$500 - S$700. But a Pacu Jawi racing cow can cost at least twice the regular cow. There are even racing cows that can cost up to S$3000 to S$4000!

Some impressive shots indeed (and impressive action)!
I find the vignetting you applied to some of them a bit distracting.
I personally prefer when the images do not have it.
