This is the photo and comment thread for the Pancake weekend of 19 and 20 September 2015.

FAQ and guidelines:

1. What is a pancake?

Good question! This is what Wikiwand says on the subject.

So, in general: a thin, flat, short lens (on the original camera). If you want some kind of formula: depth < half diameter (of the widest part of the lens; depth does not include the adapter).

Here's a nice list of 17 specimen.

So called pseudo pancakes are welcome too: Rokkor 45/2 (which turns out not to be a real pancake; thank you addy); Rikenon 50/2; Sony 16/2.8 (E-mount) and 20/2.8 (E-mount)

And pinholes? Well, they don't get much pancakier, so yes!

2. Post as many shots as you like and please give comments on the contributions of others.

3. Only photos taken with a pancake lens are allowed. Photos should be made on September 19 and/or 20 but may be posted later.

4. Please state which pancake and camera you used.

Have fun!

Happy shooting!

Seems to be that I´m first

After heavy rain in the morning the weather becomes better so I could do a little tour along the river Weser which is flowing through my hometown Bremen, Germany. Here is a first set of 4 pictures all taken with A6000 and Konica Hexanon AR 1.8/40 mm:

#1 Riverside

#2 Plugged

#3 Weser Tower

# 4 The Bridal Pair

So, now i wonder what you will present

Sorry about that

By the definition used here the Minolta 45/2 is a pancake at 30.5x64mm. It seems I don't have a lens that is compliant with the definition in this thread - the lens that comes closest is the Minolta MD 50/1.7 at 36x64. A two-day challenge is doable, but alas, no pancake

I managed to grab a Minolta MD Rokkor-X 45mm f/2 at a local thrift shop yesterday, so I'm in!

Here's my first two:

"Rokkor on a Messy Table"

Minolta MD Rokkor-X 45mm f/2 on Sony A3000 via FOTGA MD-NEX adapter
ISO 1600, 1/20, f/2 (or maybe f/2.8)
(fully desaturated in Lightroom)

"Growing Tomatoes"

Minolta MD Rokkor-X 45mm f/2 on Sony A3000 via FOTGA MD-NEX adapter
ISO 100, 1/30, f/4

(probably should have gone to ISO200... but I was having more trouble with focus than camera shake)

Well done to all so far!   The Joys of Manual Focus eh? Well done on getting hold of a lens just in the nick of time, thornburg.

Robbie - that wedding photo is most eye catching. It must have been an interesting/different ceremony....

I've been superbusy with family stuff today (but with a few pancakey shutter releases through the day) Tomorrow, it is one of our sons' 5th birthday party *and* I'm working a ten hour day/night.   I'll see what I can manage

Hi Mikey,

it wasn´t the ceremony itself but the shooting afterwards. The guy behind the bridal pair was steering a drone he was filming with. But it is a bit strange scenery for sure

We went looking for a tent trailer and ended up at the Cruquius Steam Draining Pump Station (1849). One of three pumping stations used to drain the Haarlemmermeer Polder. We Dutch certainly know how to make land from lake. Comes at a price though. The whole project costed ten million guilders, in todays money some 100 million euros. I had a bit of a struggle with this 1930s three element lens. Wide open not such a good idea. More to come, commenting later.
