Week 46
A: Creative ![]() Juvenile swan | A5000 | LA-EA4 | Minolta AF 24-105mm F3.5-4.5 | f/4.5 | @ 60.0 mm | 1/60 s | ISO 3200 A late afternoon walk on Sunday took me to the Oxford canal at Thrupp, just north of Kidlington. A pair of swans came from the Oxford directions and obligingly paddled close by. This was taken at 1/60s with a 90mm equivalent lens setting, and it came out a bit soft, but I've dramatised things with the duotoning and darkened background to help mitigate this a little. |

![]() Mawddach river and estuary | NEX-7 and Sigma E 30mm F2.8 | five-frame stitch| typically f/5.6 | 1/160 s | ISO 100 Well, if week 46 had fallen like this week back in 2014, I could have shown you photos of Spring Offensive's last gig in Oxford. As it is we have to settle for a walk on the Precipice Walk near Dolgellau in Wales. There is a link to a full-size version here, https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7554/15786520126_eb87f96d65_o.jpg. Gratifyingly and despite all the imperfections, this photo made Explore on Flickr. |

![]() Light and shade | A7 III + LA-VE1 + Vectis V 400 F8 | 1/500 s | ISO 125 I was on a visit to the Arundel Wetland and Wildlife Trust and tried to use my MF 400mm adapted mirror lens to catch me some birds, but the only sharp photo to come out was this cool set of ripples in the waters there. |

Week 47
A: Creative ![]() Portrait of a dodo | A900 and Minolta AF 70-210 F4 | f/4.0 | @ 150 mm | 1/125 s | ISO 1600 Yesterday was the last day of the Photo 150 week and I hadn't taken any photos. The University Museum of Natural History had just refreshed some of its displays so I went along to have a look. The MNH's Twitter handle is @morethanadodo so where better to start than here? I had dug out my A900 and my rarely used (these days) Beer Can. It took several goes and I had to find an angle that worked with the display case's backdrop, but I rather like the enigmatic outcome; extinct, moi? |

![]() 'If you've got a nice balcony, use it' | NEX-7 and E 55-210mm F4.5-6.3 OSS | f/5.6 | @ 55 mm | 1/20 s | ISO 6400 Bending the date range slightly by a couple of days and continuing the theme of great Oxford bands that packed it in and called it a day, here we have Stornoway playing one of their later gigs at St John the Evangelist in Oxford. A group blessed with interesting harmonies and a folky pop sound, demonstrated in this video filmed in a local park, https://youtu.be/GiLO4qPkA64. The lead singer and lyricist went on to work as a nature reserve warden in South Wales. Edited by Howard_S - 28 November 2022 at 14:03 |

![]() Four scientists A900 and SAL 50mm F1.4 | typically f/1.4 | 1/100 s | ISO 400 Back in the Museum of Natural History I decided to record some fresh photos of the statues to significant scientists that dot the pillars around the ground floor. Here we have Roger Bacon, Gallileo, Newton (apple at his feet), and Charles Darwin relaxed and supreme, I suspect. |

WE're almost at the finish line, so a few comments on your latest pics Howard:
46/B - This really is a great panorama, as the varied subtle colours and the way the clouds intersect with the hills, combines to make a very appealing shot. 46/C - I really like this- it's a very striking effect and image. 47/A -Very good composition to get an uncluttered background as well as an interesting perspective on the bird. 47/C - Another one of my favourites- I like the subjects, and the Darwin shot is especially human. |

Week 48
A: Creative ![]() South Park sunset | A900 and SAL 50 F1.4 | 3 frame stitch | typically f/1.4 | 1/250 s | ISO 200 A poor week for me and my only new photo is in section C below. So for creative I have borrowed one of the photos I took last week, a panorama of the view over Oxford from South Park at dusk. There was a lovely light and the spires of Oxford were just visible in the distance. |

![]() Spot the ball: North Leigh FC vs Bideford AFC | A7 and Minolta AF 500mm Reflex F8 | f/8.0 | 1/1000 s | ISO 12800 This week in 2016 I had just bought a 500mm reflex F8 lens and my old home-town team in Devon were playing an away match at North Leigh a few miles west of Oxford. These teams were playing in a lower division of the Southern League, at Level Four of the national league. At the time Oxford City (who play less than a mile from my home) and Bideford were separated by only one division and promotion and/or relegation would have seen the teams play each other quite often, but alas it never happened. |

![]() Lye Valley boardwalk A7 III / LA-EA4 / SAL 50mm F1.4 | f/4.0 | 1/160 s | ISO 1250 It was a grey and dark afternoon today and so a rather prosaic photo of a nearby nature reserve, the Lye Valley. The valley 'has been credited with SSSI status due to its rare fenland and rare plants including the grass of Parnassus'. |

A: Creative ![]() Frost | A7 and Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO Art 018 | f/4.5 | 1/100 s | ISO 100 We've had a lot of frost these last few days and snow, even, in London. This simple macro was taken on a walk this afternoon, passing through a nearby park. |

![]() Supermoon | A65 and Minolta AF 500mm F8 Reflex | f/8.0 | 1/500 s | ISO 100 Five years ago we had a supermoon, rather like the one we've had recently, but the cloud was thin enough to catch it one night - a nice amount of detail for this modest kit. |
