Week 21 - Theme 2: Week Prime - Colour
Minolta AF 200mm f2.8 HS APO I have already used this lens in the challenge, but with a 2x Minolta TC attached, here it is on its own. This is a nice lens, a bit smaller and considerably lighter than the 80-200/2.8 zooms, but there isn't a lot between them in terms of IQ. In a way I am a bit disappointed having expected more, but what I've got is still a very nice lens. Friends left their rather absurd looking cockapoo with us for a few days, he and our mutt get on ludicrously well tearing around for hours on end given the chance. Week 22 - Theme 1: Blast from the Past
Catching up (slowly) here is another shot from 2000 and another church (I have a lot of shots of local churches). The gate pillars sitting alone in a field mark one of several gateways in the formal gardens of a very grand house/palace that burnt down about 300 years ago. Built in 1620 by William Craven for Charles I's sister, Elizabeth, the dispossessed Queen of Bohemia with whom he was infatuated. Hamstead Marshall Church ![]() Olympus 3020 |

I do like that shot of Dougie with the 200mm. You have to admit it takes some very nice pics.
It can be tricky keeping up with the challenge. I think we were doing ok mostly until the new challenges started popping up. They seemed to distract or take up time on the 150 challenge. |

My problem was being away from home being a busy tourist - the camera had a zoom plugged on most of the time, fitting in some prime shooting was more of an issue than I anticipated. And then, when we got home I was slow catching up with processing. Week 22 we were in Scotland where I used a couple of primes while visiting a murky Urquhart Castle. AS a change from churches a Victorian country house (in use as a hotel at the time I took the picture). The man who had it built was a predecessor of mine as president of the local history society. This photo shows just how far the organisation has fallen! Aldermaston Court ![]() Olympus 3020 |

Minolta AF 100mm f2.8 macro I have all three Minolta versions of this lens and this is the oldest. It doesn't matter much which one is on the camera, the picture taking capabilities are all superb. I tend to use this older version more when out walking and the D most for MF macro work the rational is simple, the old version is the cheapest so I am risking less from knocks/drops etc while the D is more precious in terms of cost and has much better MF control. Travelling home we decided spent a night in Richmond, Yorkshire. The views from the castle tower are excellent. The Culloden Tower was built in 1746 by local MP John Yorke as a folly on his estate. I can't help suspecting that it was planned before the battle at Culloden that gives it its name. Nevertheless the choice of name is obviously designed to offend all Jacobites. Week 24 - Theme 1: Blast from the Past
Inside this week - a memorial tablet I cam across while investigating local churches. Years later I got interested in the local casualties of the Great War and found out that Donald Lewis played a significant par. Early in the war he developed the mapping system used by the British to identify locations and to adjust artillery targeting - it seems a crude system today, but it worked.
