I see some shape similarities between the moon shot and the Pūkeko shots
![]() Nice series this past week. Based on your review of the Tamron 150-500 I finally decided to get one as well, I thought long about the Sony 200-600 or the Sigma 150-600 but in the end size and weight swayed me to the smallest of the three options. Looking how big and heavy this one already is I'm glad I did, the other ones probably would leave the house seldomly while this one is still manageble and just fits in one of my standard bags. And as your three images show the optical quality leaves little to complain about. |

Ngā mihi nui- thanks Pieter. Yeah, the pūkeko looked rather spherical. I wanted to get a shot of the head side and it obliged me with that pose.
Glad you found my review useful. The Tamron 150-500 has really surprised me with how good it is. Obviously it would be preferable if it could reach 600mm. But like you, I begrudge the extra size and weight that would entail. |

Running behind somewhat on my processing at the moment, so have a bit of catching up to do. Will begin with a creative shot, in the sense I used my mobile phone to help compose and take these selfies. #1 (Pic 61) Selfie (Creative) ![]() a7Riii with Zeiss Batis 85/1.8 at f1.8 #2 (Pic 62) Rock Pool (Scenic) ![]() a7Riii with Zeiss Loxia 35/2 in Seafrogs underwater housing |

Week 21: May 24-30
Still under pressure with the processing and event photography this week, but the local birdlife is still obliging. #1 (Pic 64) Browsing Pūkeko (Telephoto theme) ![]() Sony a9 with Tamron 150-500mm, at 500mm, f6.7, ISO5000. I am genuinely blown away at how good these shots are even at ISO5000. I was reluctant to go over ISO400 with my a100, and for my a900, ISO1600 was close to my limit. And the detail and lack of noise was never as good as these. |

Week 24: June 13-20
I'm making an effort to have a camera with me more often and trying to take pictures around me. I'm hoping the weather will cooperate in the next week or 3 so I can indulge in some more interesting expeditions, but at the moment, I'm sticking close to local scenes. One my jaunt to Catalina Bay I did spot a Kāruhiruhi, but only had my Sony 24-105mm with me. So it was a job of showing at 105mm and then cropping. Fortunately it was content to pose on the iron bar in the concrete block in the water, so never really tested the camera or lenses capabilities. #1 (Pic 74) Kāruhiruhi (telephoto theme) ![]() a7Riii and 24-105/4 G, at f4, 1/1000s, ISO125. #2 (Pic 75) Auckland Ferry Building (creative theme) ![]() I used a split-tone effect on the original art-deco designed building at the Auckland wharf. Shot with a7Riii and Sony 24-105/4 G And here is a shot of the front of the building as a colour image instead #3 (Pic 76) Ferry Building (scenic theme) ![]() |

I had a wander in my lunch break, and liked the way the backlit branches of this tree, were almost in silhouette form. It is somewhat convenient having a small holster-style camera bag with the a7r3 and Zeiss Loxia 50/2 lens with me, and is compact enough to take on my bike ride to work.
