Just a minor point perhaps, but do people prefer I use their real names or their Dyxum names in my comments about their photos in this challenge?

(I apologise for not posting a real name, but after 3+ years of active stalking involving an erotomaniac stalker some years ago, I need a bit more anonymity)

Thanks, I will perhaps use your real names until anyone objects. It feels...more social.
If you want to use an actual name for me rather than refer to a large, ugly insect, Kai works as a nome-de-plume. I use it on other social media...

I have no problem with screen names or real names, I think that's mainly a matter of personal preference of the member.

Some people have their real name written in their profile (or signature) and then I will use that when it fits. If people don't they probably have a reason for that and I will only use their screen name, even though I might know their real name from a meeting or email corrospondence.

And (almost) everybody here knows that pegelli is Pieter and I am OK with people using either of these.

I am in line with the majority. I don't have any problems with usernames, nome-de-plumes or real names. I tend to reply using the screen name as I assume that's how someone has chosen to be known. I'm happy for people to address me as they see fit.

Ian (real name). lol.

As a follower and commenter of this challenge, alas too wimpy to enter this time , I would also like to comment as I am currently managing a UK meet thread where I have included real names in the listings.

As Pieter has already said, I will use a first name if it is a part of the ID (i.e. Howard_S = Howard) but if there is no name I look at a member's profile page. If their name is part of it I have assumed that they have no problem with it being used.

But now, on reflection, and especially after @Wētāpunga's comment about stalking, I am not so sure it is the right thing to do, since only a member has access to a profile page, yet anyone can read the threads and would be therefore be able to deduce the "real" name of someone. And that makes me a little bit uncomfortable.

So I shall follow this discussion with interest and hopefully will not inadvertently breach anyone's confidentiality.

Brian

So random thoughts on the challenge now that we're over the 10% line

First, it seems participants are a little more confident this year, at taking photos for the challenge. Last year's experience helped me, and perhaps others.

Second, while there are fewer participants this year, I'm finding it a little easier to comment. Perhaps because I have more time. Perhaps because there are fewer photos to view. Not surprisingly the bulk of the feedback seems to come at later in the weekend, at the end of each week

Third, my more flexible parameters are working for me. One of the problems last year was I had more ambitious aspirations. Which turned out to be impossible to sustain. This time round (so far) I am finding a bit easier. I also like the wildcard option I gave myself, and so far, have used it once. (Only 11 left...).

Fourth, one thing I'm appreciating is the range of subjects I can photograph with my kit. Being able to go from say 15mm to 500mm, as well as macro, means I can usually think of something worth attempting.

Fifth, feedback on photos and well, just the posts generally, is quite encouraging. Ngā mihi nui

For me, the 3 a Week are really in my system. No trouble fiding spirit, oppertunities for shooting. OK, if weather is bad for more days, shooting gets limited

Hi Maarten,

yeah, I think that's it- after last year its 'in our system'. We've got into the habit of taking photos regularly, on a weekly basis
