Quick note to anyone (me included) who has listed 'archive' as one of their three channels of challenge for this ...

Holidays, remember them, they used to be a thing (before 2020 happened) - maybe spin a quick 'unless I'm away on holiday' option in.

Welcome aboard (again). Hopefully you'll get nice surprizes along the way - my 366 in 2008 turned into a 500 day version and led me into all sorts of things I'd never have done. This one (Photo 150) is more planned and more structured but will also likely bring a few unexpected things.

Wow, who knew there were so many participants?! dCap and I started this #Photo150 discussion during #Week50mm (yes, I am spending a lot of time on Twitter). I'm in.

When dCap and I were "talking", the goal of this was not to make it a big chore for anyone, unless they wanted the pressure. For me, I will:

**1) I pick a topic/theme the Sunday night prior to the week. For Week 1, I picked "new beginnings". I'll shoot two new shots that are related to this theme.

**2) Go find an archive shot that may or may not be part of theme.

My goal is to shoot more regularly in 2021, with more intent, use all of my gear. And, I also want to organize my archive.

I only skimmed the other posts here. I can't believe we're 5 pages in. Nice to see some old timers here -- Maffe, eddyizm.

I'm off to Open Views!

Well, first week is done. 49-51 to go.
What I like so far is that 3 shots per week doesn't put the same pressure on that a Week 50 (or even OktoberFest does). If I can get 2-3 good shots per week and can sustain that I'll be happy. Have appreciated seeing other participants attempts to get a bit creative also.

Also researching new techniques. Will have to try an Orton effect I think, the old school way by taking two pics and combining them later.

I still need to work on my workflow and tidy up my catalogs. My organisation in the early years (2008-9) was poor. I didn't have LR. Photos were put in different folders in different external drives. So even moving to LR I've ended up with a lot of duplicates. And now I'm moving away from LR.

I'm now trying to have a flow that is more efficient. Import photos into ACDSee Photo Home Studio. Sort, keyword, select keepers etc. And the ones that make the cut get sent to C1 (as a session). ACDSee has a very useful duplicate finder as well...I had almost 3000 dups in my 2008 folder (gulp).

@Wetapunga ... let us know how your transition from LR goes. I feel like I'm locked in for a while. If there were a way to move to something different, and kept the edits, I'd consider it.

I miss old Picasa, the super simple photo viewer with simple editing.

Agree, 2 shots a week plus an archive has been comfortable (after a single week, LOL). I could post tons of archives though, so will try to cull that down for my "official" #Photo150 posts.

Keep up the energy, folks!

Well, both C1 and ACDSee let you import LR catalogs and presumably your edits. They get converted to these programs Catalog settings. Havenít tested it quite yet as I want to get the LR catalogs free of duplicates before I make the transition. I have way too many photos from my early foray into DSLRs.

Thanks @Weta ... I'll be doing a lot of clean up in Lightroom this year. After that's done, then I'll try C1. I had researched C1 a few years back and they did not have an elegant import tool.

Being an ex-Adobe user. A company I will never connect to again. I'm about to learn Capture One and Affinity Photo, but I've decided NOT to rely on Capture one to do my tags. I'm taking that element 'off-line' so to speak.

This is easy for me as I intend to keep less than 1% of the shots I've fired. And I don't shoot friends/family. My tags will all eventually be on a very simple spreadsheet (usable in anyone's 'spreadsheeting' tool). And for navigation eventually it'll be on my website. Web > tags > Flowers = thumbnails.

Just in case Capture One hire the dope that designed LR's rental scheme in 10 years time. If I'm starting again I'm not getting too deep into anything. Sure there is only one "flickr1000" and only one Adobe rental department ... but PhotoBucket and Tumblr have all had their 'can we be Kodak next' please moments.

Sounds a little paranoid (and is) - but as a very lo-fi web designer I've had 4x web design apps either go out of business or just stop on me. Web design is a degree more complex than filing a bunch of photos. That pain now puts me into typing the HTML code (which is actually quite sweet and nice and leads to efficient design without bloated code). The norm is to use Wordpress but about 80% of the code is not needed.

I'm also on PC (Windows). Was Mac for 1990-2006-ish and Windows from 2007-onwards. My html could switch to Mac tomorrow without absolutely zero effort. I don't want my photo edits baked into anyone else's app. So I'm aiming for the same with photo edits. Now, I have no intention of moving to the Mac or Linux. But I would like the option to without 'oh I need to keep a PC for that one app'. Hard work but being system free is the ultimate goal my end. I've never used Linux but will do one day to prove to myself I can flip-flop.

Good to see that this hybrid of the 365 and week-long or month-long is working out. I have high hopes. Monday today. Mission: do not wait until Sunday again to find some archive shots! I intend to post my two archive images during the week ... and only save my 'new image' until Sunday.

As an "oh boy" where do I start with the Archive. I've been good - mostly. My RAWs are all saved in YY / MM / DD folders. Often "DD-London". As that is how I like to organize stuff. But my edited image are in a bunch of different things scattered around various folders. I'll have an 'Oktoberfest' folder with 31 edited images in it for example. And I've got 'KM7D_LRd' meaning that is all/some of the exported JPGs? Dunno. The final image edits have not been so organised - there are layers of organisation. Part of this challenge for me is to move everything to a more logical flow.

Thankfully I've got 'Paris' in the folder name - so I don't have to wonder where that strange pointy tower is in the world.

But I have a road trip from UK to Poland that I've never edited and those are just in 'date' folders. Not sure which country they will be from. And I did the trip twice. So four roadtrips really (there and back). Looking forward to seeing them for the first time!

Part 1 of the archive for me is - ensure everything is in YY/MM/DD structure (all the RAWs are).
Part 2 - go find all my JPGs!
Part 3 - pick a folder, go edit!

Jan 2005 to Dec 2020 is 16 years * 12 months ... so 192 folder. And every day I've shot there is a day folder. I'm intending to try and stick to edit January in January. But I'll jump from year to year.

Soon (this week) I'll make me a tracking spreadsheet so I can see which of the 192 months folders are DONE. Which are EMPTY. Which are WIP (work in progress). Which are RED (not yet viewed/sorted/edited).

I've had months where I've not shot a single frame, so I can get my 192 folder mountain down to 150 (?) - and make the project seem smaller.

2008, while one of my busiest shooting years, should be relatively simple. It is the year I did my 366x and I edited as I went along. So that should mainly be just some filing. But I am re-working/re-editing the better images. It will likely be the first year I finish. Then I might jump to say 2012 if I didn't shoot much that year as an easy win.

I'm also stuck on lightroom. I've moved away from all other adobe products (and windows in general) with only lightroom being the last app I need to keep windows around. I've moved to open source and linux for almost everything.

Has anyone used Dark Table? That's the linux alternative but there are currently no tools to convert lightroom cataglogs over to dark table. This may become my own personal project as I know, speaking to Maffe, we are over a decade deep into lightroom with our collections which I'm sure many others have the same issue.

Yes, Lightroom is a sticky app for sure. At least there are both Windows and Mac versions. At roughly US$10/month it's not bad. I wonder what monthly fee would make me switch? In the old days, film costs plus processing was higher than this, right? Right now, my biggest LR peeve is that I have to login each time I fire it up, or at least it feels this way.

RE: keywords and organizing. I use a dated folder structure with "event/topic" in the name -- something like 2021-01-11 Week 01 Photo 150 - Shop Windows. However, ideally, I have more keywords than this. I have a separate folder for LR exports for social media posting. I'll print from LR for the Dyxum Postcard Exchange.

It's complicated.
