I'd prefer to talk on the individual threads. I'm accustomed to bringing up the Dyxum challenges page to find the posts that fall off the recent-posts sidebar as it is. |

If this really is a problem then how about this as an alternative solution.
We could post thumbnails to this thread - will show an example below (pretend that the - - - - dashes are new replies). And then people could thumbnail quote when commenting? Again, as below. And I write this as someone who really struggles with the 3-5 threads of the other challenges. As a reader, reading something like 'nice shot of that fence George' in the comments thread leaves me wondering which of the seven shots of fences posted by four people they refer to (none of them with George as their handle or in their footer). Clearly since my name isn't George you could argue that I shouldn't even care, but I used forums as a place to read and am interested in why people do/don't like certain snaps. - - - - - My Week 17 shot: ![]() shot on iPhoneSE2 - - - - - George posts: [ quote ] ![]() [ / quote ] Derek you idiot, that is shot with an iPhone, this forum is for hipsters who use ye olde worlde Minolta film cameras and play music on cassettes. These telephones with cameras will never catch on! - - - - Here - everybody gets to see what a silly billy Derek is for thinking that the iPhone is a Sony camera. And discussion can branch off into fave film stock and when we shot at one ISO for a whole 36 frames (37 if you're lucky). The thumbnails link to the image post in 'my' Photo150 thread - but serve as a reminder for anyone (other than Derek/George) interested in the comments on that shot. This is extra work. And perhaps not everyone posts thumbnails though. The more complicated and disjointed this becomes, the easier it is to just post the images to Instagram. I have a special interest in week50mm but commenting in a non-thumbnail thread seemed odd to me (I thought at the time that a hybrid solution might work?). |

PS - shoot/editing a year long project with zero comments/input (NOT being suggested here, but for reference) is for the very very very dedicated - having done a 365 during the time when flickr was good, flickr got me through it - I doubt I would have completed (and got to day 500) without that exchange of comments - the comments are part of the project.

I would say it boils down to this. Maybe the forum software could just filter those posts out or ? |

I also favor this page (last 200 posts):
https://www.dyxum.com/dforum/xlastposts.asp shows me a simpler list (not in categories) ... and I can easily tell there is a conversation going on in one thread ... or if someone is thread bombing and having a 5-8 thread comment session ... if someone who's talent impresses me posts to the image threads and I go looksee Edited by dCap - 18 January 2021 at 18:02 |

I was searching high and low for that 'last 10 topics' list, thanks for referring to its location.
My experience of Dyxum (through habit) is mostly through email alerts for topics or forums I have already visited. The drawback is that I don't always see new things as they happen! When Firefox had a handy RSS reader built in it was a good way to follow new posts on Dyxum, but since they took that away I haven't found anything that suits my needs. The RSS subscription options presented on Dyxum are mostly dead now. Perhaps one day I'll train myself to visit the Forum more efficiently in future. |

Nice to see the continued energy with everyone's Photo150 projects! I'll try to comment later this weekend.

Today is the end of week 5 ... so we are 10% through this project.
Any thoughts on progress so far? - - - The current UK covid situation (full national lockdown until at least 22-Feb) means I have a little more time than I'd like to mess with my archive. But at the same time my archive needs a really really good go through. Having my 'main' external drive fail was a worry and I'm still re-building the other dupes I have to get back to three copies. It was annoying but also timely and part of the driver for my focus on my archive. Gosh, driver and focus in one sentence with no pun! I'm also now changing my filing system a little so that I swap main drive every month. That I run 6x drives instead of 3x due to the number of files is part of my 'must delete more' process. I have plans for those 'spare' 3x drives that cannot start until cleared (2022?) Looking forward to things hopefully being different in April with a potential change in my 3x topics but I might just retain my: Archive567 (2005-2007), Archive8 (2008), and 2021 iPhone shots theme. Sort of wishing this was 'just' an archive project for me though as I could certainly pick three archive themes and not run out of images by year end. I would probably add 2019+2020 flush as my third theme. The trick now will be to keep going until year end (with the archives) ... and then continue until resolved. And being smarter with my 2021 shots. Learning Affinity Photo and having a different workflow is also interesting. I'm liking it but haven't re-edited many of the older shots. That is the next part as I'm wanting to tinker with a few colors and maybe even re-crop some of the shots a little. Overall - I'm really enjoying it. The 'this week on iPhone' is a novel almost bonus part. Next up will be building a website to put these image on. |

I think It's going fine.
The archive dive is fun, it's not an archive organisation or culling exercise, for me it's just trying to find more post worthy shots and trying alternative processing options to try and make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. The vintage digital macro is a blast, I really like using these old DSLR's. Especially the rendering of the old 6MP KM5D keeps surprising me and with the latest PP technology (and probably some further developed skills) both the A700 and KM5D perform better than they ever did in the past ![]() And the third topic is going fine as long as there are primes in the week (plenty of shots to choose from), it will probably become more difficult later in the year in weeks that I have no prime for, we'll see. Currently the lockdown here in Belgium is not giving me any problems, we're encouraged to go out and as long as we don't group together and stay within the country we can move around and do as much photography as we like. So I consider myself very lucky as compared to our friends in the UK. COVID Infections, hospital admissions and fatalities are relatively constant allthough at a too high level, let's hope we can avoid a third peak here and keep the current level of freedom. Bottom line, the first 10% went fine, looking forward to the next. |

@dCap and @pegelli
I think it is going fine. I've been liking the creative efforts people are coming up with. And it has motivated me to take more pics more regularly. Unfortunately Week 5 for me will have to count as one of my 2 missed weeks. I've actually spent a lot of time with camera, taking video and learning FinalCut Pro but there's not really anything to show for it. Weekend also is my birthday so abandoning family to take photos is not prudent... |

It's a fairly relaxed challenge - three shots a week, but the current lockdown is a bit limiting. I have limited my picture taking to my daily long dog walk. This limits me to a few miles from home. So my choices for landscapes are a bit limited - but I'm sure I can cope for a few months yet. The forecast for the coming week looks dry, probably frozen, which would be nice as I'm getting fed up of trudging/sliding through mud. The Lens Extravaganza is easy enough, the challenge is in getting a postable shot out of the lesser lenses (and there are plenty of those). Having worked my way through the 1988 lenses, which was triggered by the decision to start with the lens with the lowest Dyxum rating, I now have to select a lens for next week. I'm torn between carrying on with lesser lenses (to get them out of the way) or to use a decent lens for a few days. So tomorrow I will set out with either, the 2nd worst rated lens (70-210 II) or the 24-85 RS I was using for CYC today. The Try Something Creative has been the most interesting and there are many ideas for future episodes - quite a few seem to need a tripod and reading the RPS recommendations Howard posted makes me less inclined to do that sort of set-up. Away from photography we have a new lodger, a tiny dachsund whose 88 year-old owner fell and broke her leg - having to house train a 4 year-old was a bit of a shock, but she seems to have worked it out now. Then there is cricket to watch and a military historian friend has sent me his latest book for proof reading - my incredibly unbusy life suddenly has more happening. |

I found this colliding with the CYC challenge, well, challenging. I'll be glad to have the daily thing out of the way.
The archive holiday photos theme is fine and is easy when cooped up in lockdown. I think the ultra-wide aspect ratios might be more difficult, and using what I might call a vintage camera is normally straightforward, at least until I reacquainted myself with the RD-175. |
