I am a bit late with Week 17. I didn't have time to shoot last week, so archive shots again. I told myself not to stress out over this project, and part of my original plan was to go through my archive pics too.

Since these are for Week 17, I selected shots from a trip into Beverly Hills August, 2017. These are all fisheye shots using my NEX-3 with 16mm pancake + Sony fisheye adapter. This is always a fun perspective. Next week, I will actually post some new shots!!

At the pizza shop ... this one is from Redondo Beach, CA ... Pedone's Pizza

Shopping ... I think this is at Barney's? Now closed, unforunately.

Ferrari rim ... in front of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel (where Pretty Woman was filmed)

Next week, some "Spring" shots!

My Week 18 shots, theme "Spring" ... I actually took some new images. Amazing. Two new, one archive.

Roses in the yard ...

Agapanthus in the yard ... more of an abstract take

A77ii + Tam 200-500 at 210mm

Dandelions from the yard ... from 2020 ... not sure why I cropped it to this aspect ratio

I'm actually sort of on schedule this week. Week 19, my theme, shooting my Sigma 19mm at the beach. These were all taken with my Sony NEX-6. I should shoot this more frequently, especially when I'm in a landscapey traveling mood. No archives this week, all new.

To the Left -- Palos Verdes

To the Middle -- Hawaii

To the Right -- Santa Monica Mountains

My project is evolving to either shooting and post three new shots, or digging into the archives. For Week 20, I am digging into the archives. Eleven years ago now, 5/30/2010, I took an "Urban Ocean Tour" of the LA and Long Beach Harbors. Here are my favorite shots from that day. All taken with my Sony A700 plus Tamron 70-200.

I like the containers.

The a700 was really quite a nice camera to use- I remember it being quite the step up from the a100. Interesting to see you still have yours. That must be some record on here.

@Wētāpunga, yes, the A700 is an excellent handling camera. This camera was my first "prosumer" digital camera and I still remember the first times I shot with it. I was blown away by the camera's responsiveness, it felt like a direct connection to my nervous system. I feel the same with my A6400 autofocus system, very snappy (pardon the pun) performance.

I remember the 'buzz' here when the a700 was first announced. I recall it felt comfortable and balanced in the hand, and the OVF was so much better than the a100. I mean I liked the photos I got out of the a100 but the photos always felt like 'work'. The a700 as you put it, was much more responsive and easier to use. It got rid of the 'work' feel of the a100 and made it much more fun.

+1 for the container shot - and that’s the first time I’ve heard the term Dutch angle!

I am lagging a little bit here ... I'll plan on posting some archives to catch up. I am shooting some new shots, some on film, but they are unthemed and random.

@Howard_S ... I learned about the Dutch Angle from watching Batman TV episodes. The bad guys were always shot at an angle because they were "crooked", LOL. Dutch Angle and Scotch Tape both have interesting etymologies. Look them up when you get a chance.

@Wētāpunga ... those early DSLRs like the Maxxum 5D and A100 were a little slow. The A700 broke through that threshold of well beyond good enough. I think the colors are a little funky when I shoot it now. But it is fun to break it out every once in a while.

Never heard of a "Dutch Angle" but it's a very nice shot that works well with the subject.

As a Dutchman I obviously had to google the term and found out it's really coming from Deutsch Angle (German Angle) since it was "invented" as an expressionistic technique in German filming early in the 20th century.
You can see the April Foolishness 2023 exhibition here Another great show of the talent we have on Dyxum
