As outlined over here in the Photo 150 yearlong photo challenge thread.

EDITS - borrowing the term 'theme' now - adding (placeholder) links to a set thumbnails thread - (will re-define my themes on Sunday).

INITIAL MASTER PLAN (pre England lockdown v3) - - - - - ON HOLD, alt Q3 plan below
My three themes of 50 photos through 2021:
- one old shot from the DIGITAL ARCHIVE
- one new CINEMASCOPE image (21:9)
- one new SQUARE image (1:1)

I will post one photo per week for each of those topics into this thread. People are welcome to comment as this progresses.

My Digital Archive (2005-2020) is something I've wanted to delve into, re-edit some, delete most, and publish a few, for about 5 years. I can no longer cope with putting this off - this is a large part of the driver behind this Photo 150 thing for me. If I don't finish reviewing my archive by the end of 2021 then I'll keep this one going until I do complete it. I hope I have 50 keepers!?

I was originally planning to get a '21mm' lens around now ready to shoot a series of 21 images in 2021. 21 being the theme. Landscape is one obvious target here and I'm a pretty terrible landscape shooter - time to see if I can improve some. But I'll shoot some street and other topics too I think. And 21 isn't enough. During my planning for this I ended up taking a dive into different image formats and then found the cinemascope and it all clicked into place. Cinemascope is a movie standard that is true 64:27 format and is most commonly referred to as 21:9 (21.3333`:9). Twenty-one-by-nine. So, I'll use different lenses but will compose in 16:9 and crop down to 21:9-ish shape (I'll do exactly 64:27).

Why Square? I started and quit a 365 (Jun-Dec 2020) with my little Sony RX100 IV. And did this all square as I've been a fan of 1:1 format for a while. It takes a while to adapt to seeing in this shape and I'm hooked ... but wanted something more flexible than a 365 (and here we are in Photo 150).

NEW PHOTOS - in 21:9 and 1:1 - I will aim to post them here the week I've shot them but that will be a target, simple if I shoot on Mon/Tue. I'm only just re-joining Sony (an a7 II will arrive next week). I might shoot occasionally with a phone though. Camera notes will be added, majority will be a7II.

Some references:
Here is some info on the 21:9 format on wikipedia.
And here is some of the 21:9 maths in Dyxum (some members posted some example images).

REVISED Q1 LOCKDOWN PLAN (to be confirmed on Sunday 10-Jan)
- archive (A-mount, 2005-7)
- archive (highlights from my 2008-9 500 day '366x' project)
- new photos (taking THAT week, iPhoneSE or A7II)
Archive BOLT-ON challenge = post images in January taken in January.
New photos (2021) will be 4:3 iPhone, or 16:9 or 21:9 on the A7II or square.
Archive images were mostly shot at 3:2 but I'm considering 4:3 or 5:4 crops.

THUMBNAIL THREADS

>> week 05 to week 08 thumbnails
>> week 09 to week 12 Thumbnails (to follow soon)

With the UK's Covid-19 restrictions as they are. Potentially about to change again next week. I need to be realistic about how I approach this project. I understand the reasons for the restrictions in our mobility and fully support them. Changes to my photo freedom are extremely minor in the grand scheme of things (even though I shoot solo).

The archive is simples. Can do that from home.

I'm under 'stay at home' rules (as of 26-Dec). I will continue to do my permitted daily walks (on the beach 200 metres from my front door) ... but I cannot justify carrying a real camera. Often, if at all. I will be reverting to iPhone** most days until rules here change. It is a daily walk 'and a snapshot' not a photo walk.

This still fits in my current 21:9 and SQ plans but don't fit the posting guidelines here. Framing in 16:9 (to crop down to 21:9) or SQ does bizarre things to iPhone file names. So I might use my walks early next week to re-think my topics (rather than work around a dopey apple quirk).

** I bought my first ever iPhone a couple of days before Xmas - iPhone SE 2020 - and the low light images I've played with since Friday have been nice to see. While many armchair photographers hate on smart phones I view these as legit photo tools and fully embrace them (even while my full-frame is in the post!).

The photo (or project) 150 fits in well with my blog but perhaps not in Dyxum. If I switch back to "Project 150" then updating this thread might not be a thing.

England (part of the UK, I think, formerly of Europe, I think) is now entered a new national lockdown. For at least the next 6 weeks.

Am now only allowed to leave home for essential shopping, some other reasons, or once-a-day to exercise "... not for the purpose of recreation or leisure (e.g. picnic ...). This should be limited to once per day and you should not travel outside your local area."

[I interpret that as also meaning not going out for a photo walk]

Will concentrate on my archive and non-photo website/s. Have some neat weekly photo topic ideas I can re-think for later in the year. And perhaps look forward to a 365 in 2022.

I'm out.

That's too bad Chris, but we still expect to see at least one "archive" shot here every week

And you could consider to take a camera or iPhone on your "once-a-day exercise walk", photographers need to keep their index finger in shape so that can't be a real problem
Mind the bandwidth of others, don't link pictures larger then 1024 wide or 960 pix high, see here

iPhone will be in my pocket - which I bought two weeks ago as a 'just in case' back-up plan.

I am "4 for 4" on pic-a-day this year (with iPhone) ... might have to start photographing the inside of the kitchen cupboards though or the brick wall I can see from my window.

I "do like a challenge" (turning this situation into a simple 365 could be it). Will report back.

I feel your pain for being grounded for 6 weeks (again).
That must be the fastest fail ever?
What about archive, selfie and indoor macro/studio shot?

I embrace failure. But this is the equivalent of falling over my shoe-laces on the start line, huh!

I do have 'Project 150'(ish, 'weekly' though) which is three channels of photo and non-photo stuff to keep me entertained.

Selfies I've considered a re-boot (as a monthly thing). Having done them back in 2008 I now wish I'd kept doing one a month since (gap of 144 months). I got real fat when I discovered ice-cream, and have since returned to almost healthy shape (but have no photo record of chubby me). I have a super covid-hairdo, did it myself with kitchen scissors!

Am already thinking studio/macro. Have no macro lens, could get one if the shops are still open for orders (non-essential, so possibly shutdown too)?

Have until Sunday to totally fail I guess.

Time to re-define my Q1 lockdown alternative for this project:
- Theme 1 - Digital Archive A Mount - Minolta A mount files 2005-7
- Theme 2 - Digital Archive 366+ - review of my 500 day long 366x from 2008-9
- Theme 3 - Lockdown Snap Shots - new images shot this week in 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, or 64:27

In the spirit of locking-down, I'm gonna lock this set of topics in from Week 01 thru Week 13.
I would rather be outdoors taking new photos but the outdoors should still be there in April.
If we exit lockdown on 01-Apr then I'll spin theme 2 and/or theme 3 into something more free-range.

The Archives / these have all been shot (composed) in 3:2 format as per ye olde worlde dSLR viewfinder. But I am re-editing the images and will also be looking to see if any work better as 4:3 or 5:4 shape. I've never really liked 3:2, so am hoping to surprize myself with some shots. There is very little chance that anything will work in 16:9 or wider.

Lockdown Shots (shot this week) / my outdoors shots will be with an iPhoneSE2 in Q1 while out for my daily walk/exercise or on a food shopping trip. The iPhone is 4:3 format. Some indoor studio shots (A7II) might be captured in 1:1 or at 16:9 for cropping to 64:27 in post.

Advance Warning / the Project 366x (2008) was a year of self portraits (before the term selfie became a bit of pop culture). Day 367-500 were open topic though. I am using this lockdown to make an online website portfolio of that project since I deleted my flickr. I will re-edit one shot per week and might post them in time sequence (i.e. select a frame from 04-10 Jan 2008 for this week).

Week 01 - Theme 1 - Digital Archive A Mount (2005-7)
::: Minolta 16mm Fisheye :::

EXIF to be added next week

Having seen some fun/interesting fisheye shots in the Day Prime thread - it is only fitting that I post a home studio photo of a Minolta 16mm f2.8 Fisheye. Captured with my KonicaMinolta Dynax 7D in 2007.

For a very very silly added bonus (because I had to re-think my project plans) ... this shot was also taken 'this week' in 2007. Not sure I can keep that bolt-on part up, but I will try!

TEMPORARY TEXT - I've just realized my new workflow has dropped the camera and lens and EXIF details out of the file (will update this post next week with exposure info, production machine is busy at the mo)

Week 01 - Theme 2 - Digital Archive 366+ (2008-9)
::: dCap in Mirror :::

EXIF to be added next week

Also shot, this week, in 2008. Don't ever complain about file noise on modern cameras. This was ISO 1600 (or 3200?) in 2008 on a 4mp Nikon D2H. The camera launched in 2003 and I had three of them - loved that camera (two for the field, 300mm on one and macro on the other, and one in the studio). The size and shape of this camera really worked for me - and I was really happy with the 4mp files too. But I did used to shoot Tmax 3200 (pushed to 6400) back in ye olde worlde film days.

TEMPORARY - ISO 1600 or 3200 - will update next week when I've checked and also add exposure details - um, 50mm (probably).
