Week 02 - Theme 2 - Digital Archive 366+ (2008-9)
::: remote studio trigger ::: ![]() Nikon D2H ~ 31mm ~ ISO 800 ~ f4 ~ 1/60 I've mentioned elsewhere that I'm a critical framer - and this is an example of what I mean - shot this week in 2008. While I hope that my revisit of the archive will let me re-think some of the framing, as I've moved on from the 3:2 shape I'm also pretty aware that my chances to re-frame are gonna be limited. That is part of the reason I'm posting this frame. The 500 day 366x ('Project 365') that I started in 2008 was an accident. I wanted to teach myself studio lighting. I want in pretty big and bought two dual light kits (4x lights) as I figured I'd have every option covered. 4x lights, 4x stands, 4x softboxes, 4x umbrellas, 4x long sync cable. My intention was to try all sort of studio lighting arrangements out. I did use 3x lights a few times and 2x lights often. I preferred the simplicity of just using 1x light. And - well - I needed a model! Hence the accidental 366x project. I tried a few lighting techniques but never really investigated many set-ups. I just really synced with one/two ways of lighting. My ex used the kit more than me shooting her friends. I sold all 4x (cheap/entry) lights a couple of years ago when I had a massive clear-out before moving to the seaside. Promising myself that I'd get a better quality one light rig after I moved. This week my (cheap/entry!) single light kit arrived - 1x light - 1x stand - 1x umbrella. Zero softbox (fiddly things that take up a lot of space). |

Week 02 - Theme 3 - Lockdown Snapshots (2021)
::: Order & Chaos ::: ![]() iPhoneSE2 - Auto ISO (80) - 3.99mm - f1.8 - 1/125 This was shot today. SOOC. If you are concerned by the tone of the yellow lines - they are this color - not as vibrant as they were - thinner too. The yellow paint in use also has a bit of a green tinge to it. I should color correct this to the tone it should be, perhaps. A momentary pause while I walked to the food store, shopping bag in hand, iPhone in the pocket. I have a side-project about double yellow lines that I started June/July 2020. Sometime around Jun/Jul this year I'll make a portfolio of the images. This will be part of that. This road was dug up and resurfaced. And repainted. But the pavement (side-walk) was left as is (a mess). And a couple of weeks later a cable company dug up the pavement to lay more fast internet. And I'd see this mess of paving stones and hoped they were replacing ... but no, they went to the effort of piecing the bits back together (and doing very very minor repairs). This is a classic example of how not to do things. Sure, they repaired it. And that let me take a photo. But to go to the effort of digging up the entire pavement (2-3 weeks after the road was replaced) and then fiddle about with the jigsaw pieces to replace the mess has to be one of the silliest trends in economy. They removed every single red/pink slab to lay the internet cables. Shame that the council (who will be replacing this pavement one day) couldn't move their schedule to suit and give these workman fresh slabs. Edited by dCap - 16 January 2021 at 23:25 |

The elongating thing is just as bad or even worst then using an adapter as I see it. |

Week 03 - Theme 1 - Digital Archive A Mount (2005-7)
::: Robin ::: ![]() KonicaMinolta Dynax 7D - ISO 800 - 300mm - f4 - 1/125 Rewinding to Christmas day (2005) with my Dynax 7D and 'a' 300mm. Probably with the Minolta 300mm f2.8? But I am guessing here. This was shot from inside my kitchen, lying on the kitchen floor, back door open. Might need to rework this as I'm sure the raw file is in focus but the jpg is coming out a little blurred. Oooh, and some jpg artifacts in the background - blurgh - will replace this. Week 03 - Theme 2 - Digital Archive 366+ (2008-9)
::: build it in - don't bolt it on ::: ![]() Nikon D2H ~ 52mm ~ ISO 200 ~ f8 ~ 1/250 + studio flash Part of my 2008 selfie project - and an example of 'not all selfies are of your face'. Shot today (in 2008). This is one of the finest designs of cameras of all time. The Nikon D2H. This design was then made into the D3, D4, etc.. Yes - it is a shot of a D2H taken with a D2H. I had three of these and used them all at once, two for the field (300mm and macro perma-connected) and one in the studio. Name D2HA, D2HB, and D2HC in my raw files. One of these I bought in London, it was an ex-press photographer's camera and had 76k on it when I got it. It was also a bit of a mess to look at. I think my lowest frame-rate was a 26k model. I put a lot on all three of them. Also, for those not familiar with Nikon bodies (um, especially given where I'm posting this), that white piece on the prism is the 'third eye'. Used for detecting temperature of the light (at the top of the camera). Kinda interesting and white balance related (even though the subject might be under different light). This is the shape the Sony a9 should be. Build it in. Don't bolt it on. Edited by dCap - 23 January 2021 at 19:39 |

::: EV Charging Only ::: ![]() iPhoneSE2 - Auto ISO (20) - 3.99mm - f1.8 - 1/1000 Took a walk to the end of Ryde Pier earlier in the week. SOOC iPhone snapshot. Really wanted to have my proper camera with me that day ... but this lot will still be there in April. Looks like this paintwork has been there for awhile now huh. iPhone's being new to me, I had no idea they went down to ISO 20. Gonna have to see if that is the minimum. |

"Paris from Notre Dame" Would look nice printed!
"remote studio trigger" Just excellent in its simplicity "build it in - don't bolt it on" Like the shot, but I disagree with the built in from a personal perspective ![]() |

Week 04 - Theme 1 - Digital Archive A Mount (2005-7)
::: Purple Flower ::: ![]() Sony a100 - 100mm - ISO 100 - f5.6 - 1/250 Probably shot with studio flash as this was the time I was playing with a lot of studio things. Although, it could be an outdoor shot on a bright day. I have no idea what 100mm lens I used here - I don't remember having a Minolta or Sony 100mm macro back in my A-mount days, but this was like 13.5 years ago, so dunno! EXIF says 100mm. I know I had a couple of 50mm macro and the Tamron 90mm. Quite possible I had a 100mm too, I guess?! Some of my other shots have said 52mm so I probably had a zoom back then? All a distant memory. I can remember every camera I've had, but the lenses ... well, they kinda blur a bit! Edited by dCap - 25 January 2021 at 18:07 |

Can I get back to that idea in 15 years time ![]() I would print (quite a lot) if Instax made one printer that popped out: 1:1, 5:4, 4:3, and 3:2 size snaps (or if they made a printer that worked on re-chargeable batteries or mains) until that day ....... |

Nice composition on the flower, but I would have probably liked a little more dof, so the whole core would be in focus. Colour and light are all spot on.
