Looking over Week 42 and 43 there Howard, I have to say that one of the highlights of the Photo150 challenge has been your images from Peru.
That Machu Picchu Overview shot in black and white looks amazing. What a sight! Have you considered doing it in a sepia tone with a white vignette? It might give a sense of the age of the structure. |

Thank you for the feedback, Wētāpunga - much appreciated.
I took a lot of photos at Machu Picchu using the camera's Rich Tone Mono setting, and I rather liked what I was seeing on the camera LCD at the time. My enthusiasm for toning waxes and wanes; I will experiment with duotones in Lightroom sometimes, but purposeful vintage looks, I'm not so sure. That said, Silver Efex Pro has an effect that matches your description ... Machu Picchu overview - Silver Efex Pro Antique Plate II treatment I posted more from Machu Picchu in Open Views here, and I plan to do a second set soon. Week 44 Theme 1: Peru trip, May 2013
Day 14 Street life Date Taken: 2013-05-24 12:34:29 | Camera Model: NEX-7 | Lens: E 30mm F2.8 | Focal Length: 30 mm | Mode: Program AE | Aperture: f/8.0 | Exposure Time: 0.003 sec (1/400) | ISO: 100 | 35mm Equivalent: 45 mm Now we are back in Cuzco for a couple of days before returning to Lima and flying home. There are lots of streets to explore, with everyday life on them. I notice that I'm using the Sigma E 30mm F2.8 lens as my go-to lens for walking about - light and inexpensive, and much smaller than the 18-55 I was using elsewhere on this trip. |

Week 44 Theme 2 ultrawide aspect ratio
Festival masks Date Taken: 2013-05-24 12:44:39 | Camera Model: NEX-7 | Lens: E 30mm F2.8 | Focal Length: 30 mm | Mode: Program AE | Aperture: f/4.0 | Exposure Time: 0.017 sec (1/60) | ISO: 1600 | 35mm Equivalent: 45 mm It's back to Peru for my ultrawide aspect ratio shot this week and here are some Peruvian Festival Masks. We were in the Cuzco / Machu Picchu area for the week of Whitsun and there were a number of parades and processions where people wore these masks in I think what is called syncretism - the taking over of older beliefs with christian meaning. |

Good choice for the wide crop on the Harrier, I like Masked festival dancers, I wonder what happens if you turn up the saturation/vibrancy? I think more color would give the background more definition.

Thanks, Paul. I tried adjusting the colours, but I think the streetlighting becomes more pronounced, defeating the object somewhat |

Day 16 Museo Mate Date Taken: 2013-05-26 16:28:03 | Camera Model: NEX-7 | Lens: E 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 OSS | Focal Length: 27 mm | Mode: Program AE | Aperture: f/6.3 | Exposure Time: 0.006 sec (1/160) | ISO: 100 | 35mm Equivalent: 40 mm On our journey home from Cuzco we spent a night in the Miraflores suburb of Lima. Week 47 Theme 1: Peru trip, May 2013
Day 17 Sacrificial cup and knife Date Taken: 2013-05-27 12:43:21 | Camera Model: NEX-7 | Lens: E 30mm F2.8 | Focal Length: 30 mm | Mode: Program AE | Aperture: f/2.8 | Exposure Time: 0.017 sec (1/60) | ISO: 1600 | 35mm Equivalent: 45 mm It's our last day of the holiday and before we head out to the airport for an end-of-day flight back to Europe we head to the Museo Larco, probably the best museum of pre-Columbian artefacts in Peru. The objects are quite terrifying, mostly, depicting human sacrifice in one form or another. These silver objects are a knife to cut the victim's throat, and a goblet to hold the spilled blood. All this hundreds of years before the Incas took over. |
