Week 16 - Something Creative

Ok, it's not that creative, but I've never tried my 70-200/2.8 G with LA-EA3 adapter on my a7Riii. And I've not tried using the animal face and eye detection. So here's Alien (a wary rescue cat) posing for me. I've had to switch to silent shutter and no audio signals as well.

Week 16 - Wide-angle Macro

Thought I'd try something really off-beat. I attached a Nisi +5 Acromat close-up filter to my Zeiss Loxia 21mm. This really isn't a recommended focal length for the Nisi filter, and the effect shows why. There's a lot of distortion to the image on the edges and corners. And vignetting. I got rid of some of the effects in C1 but there was no way it could be properly eliminated.

The beer is a limited release American IPA that the Behemoth Brewery sold in NZ in October/November 2020. It tastes rather good.

That’s rather pleasing as a beer photo - strong stuff? It reminds me of BrewDog’s Barnard Castle Eye Test Hazy Durham IPA, ‘Short sighted beer for tall stories’. I must photograph my last can before it’s all gone.

Hi Howard- it’s a decent strength, 7.5% .
I do like that craft beer companies are definitely putting creative effort into their cans now. They really are so distinct from the big breweries rather dull labelling approach.

I’m definitely keen to see your beer photo now too!

It was definitely both tasty and (for this market), a marketing triumph

Week 18 (I think)

Another brutal week with most work days running 12 hours. So this will be another archival series. It should drop back in 3 weeks time, and I can get back on track.

#1 Australian (or Tasmanian) Paper Wasp - from 2010

a700 with Tamron 90/2.8 at f16 and 1/200 sec. And flash obviously

#2 Marooned. Rock in Mokoroa Stream - from 2012

a700 with CZ16-80 at 24mm, f13, 2sec, CPL filter, ISO100

Week 20

Three shots this week. As part of my downsizing of kit with the shift to E-mount, I invested in the Nisi m75 system. I haven't taken my Lee filters out for a while, so here are some basic shots comparing the size.

All shots straight from the camera with no editing. I'm using an a7Riii and Zeiss 85/1.8 Batis.

Comparing the two filter sizes- the Nisi takes filters 75mm wide, Lee 100mm wide.

The Nisi filter has an extra screw to lock the filters in place.

With the circular polarisers

Ignoring the rim, the Lee is 100mm diameter and the Nisi 67mm. The Nisi system for rotating the CPL is excellent.

Attached to lenses

It helped that Nisi had a 15% off sale recently. Plus I like that their ND grads are made from glass, not resin.

There is certainly not the range of filters however for the m75 system. There is also no filter hood like Lee, which I found invaluable in the past to block the spray from waterfalls or sea, hitting the lenses.

There is also no way to mount the Nisi filters in different angles to each other. But it is a much more compact system.

Nice shots and treatment Wētāpunga, I like the Ivory carver most but I wonder where they got such large pieces of ivory legally in 2014.
You can see the April Foolishness 2021 exhibition here Another great show of the talent we have on Dyxum
