Hello Dyxum friends,
This is the second Dyxum Photographic Assignment, the topic is Getting Closer The general rules can be found at here. now, here is your task! you will get closer to one of your frequent subjects. But the reason you didn't get closer before must be that either you are scared or embarrased in some way, or you haven't thought of going closer to that subject before. You will challenge yourself to get closer to it! I suggest you use wider lenses than usual to get fine compositions. Note that its forbidden to do cropping in PP. You have to compose only in the viewfinder! does not increase, but the satisfaction when finished will be greater. ![]() NBB: For something new on this subject to look at check out this guy. Only in New York could someone do this stype of street photography. Real in your face. Bruce Gilden. This was initially found and posted by cjc181166. Edited by brettania - 22 May 2008 at 07:07 |

Nice shot Maffe. I would say that you pass this challenge, going from tele to 16 mm. Were you embarrased? On the other hand you made a good choise of picking a victim since the king's guard is not allowed to speak. He couldn't really argue when you asked him if you could take his portrait, could he. You sneaky ......!
Btw, some worthless information, the bayonette on the guards rifle is so cool, we had those when I did a week of guarding the castle, if you drop the knife, point down, it penetrates a swedish 5-krona coin. It's really heavy and sharp. Now I'm going out to fight my fears to get a shot for this stage Edited by Swede66 - 20 June 2007 at 12:45 |

He is either standing on an elevated platform - or he is really tall - or those are toy cars in the background!

@Swede66:
I know it was a little cowardly to shot a Royal guard, but all the street musicans had left town for the day (was out to late). @Bob Janes: The guard stand on a little platform on a wall, so no toy cars:) @Rosie: I have some problems with my host, try reaload in a couple of minute and it will work. Glad I past the "Class" :P |

Yes, it's not easy to change your habits :) For instance I usually shoot flowers with a beercan or a big beercan or at least my 50/1.7, but for this assignment I put my 28/2.8 on the body and went for walk-about (this was the only lens I took, to avoid any temptation ;)). The funny thing is that this lens is "normal" (focal length nearly the same as sensor diagonal) and despite this it was not easy to use it for the photos I wanted to get. Generally I have to say that this assignment was (in fact still is - I intend to redo it) a very valuable exercise for me. Now it's time to present one of the shots I took (others are still being post-processed): (Minolta 28/2.8, f2.8, 1/400s, ISO200, -0.7EV) BTW, the mouse I posted some time ago (in my "cat's evil play" thread) was also taken with this lens (distance to the mouse was about 30cm - couldn't get any closer ;)). |

I'm noise-blind. And noise-about-noise-deaf too ... | BTW, Dyxum Weekly Exhibitions don't grow on trees ...

wow.. the WA perspective and WA bokeh gave the shot a unique dizziness (i'm getting this with my 28/2 close ups too, and its bokeh is even funkier)
for me the colors and the sharpness of the center flower opposed to soft details distributed around the frame make it a nice and unique picture. I like it a lot:) and reminded me about i should get more closeups with my 28.. but hey, i recently got a sig 50 mac, and a 90 mac is on the way! so the 28 will loose the close up priority for some time:) no need to say you passed the class;) i should prepare the next stage now.. |
