Photography as a Business forum

This subforum is for discussion of the mechanics and issues involved in conducting a business centered around the taking of photographs. It covers the range from those whose sole income is from photography as well as those who supplement their income, take occasional commissions, sell their work through stock libraries or sell prints on a small scale.

It is not for those who are trying to sell goods or services to other members. Posts that attempt to sell goods or services in this forum without prior clearance from the Dyxum AMAE team may be moved, hidden or deleted.

At Dyxum we do have very high standards when it comes to politeness and etiquette and so we would ask that members exhibit true professionalism (that’s professionalism as in 'Professional courteously' rather than 'professional foul').

I will leave this topic open for a while so that people can leave comments regarding naming and detail of this new forum, but please note that these comments will be deleted and this topic locked once it has fulfilled its purpose.

Whilst on the topic I would like to point out I purposely avoid any such discussions if I am mentioned in this area. It would be entirely inappropriate and also, I wouldn't want to encourage it (picture me locked in a shed for a day = terrible). Not to say kind words aren't appreciated.

I would imagine trade-sellers of equipment would not be allowed to post, but I could be wrong. It also depends on what you are as a trade seller. I mean, some people sell a LOT of equipment on dyxum or elsewhere but link on dyxum, I wouldn't be surprised if they are partly earning some income of this (whether hidden from tax or not). If it's a big name like KEH, who just wouldn't venture here, I think safe to assume they'd not be allowed?

I basically just sell wedding photography. I can recall 1 post on here, someone in Spain looking for someone. I suggested someone I knew, as well as myself - perhaps that was inappropriate. If that occurs again, I think best for me to try and offer impartial advice and no mention myself at all (remove sig) (or avoid completely). But, realistically, this is so uncommon, I don't think it's an issue either

Just to clarify; the reason for the 'and services' bit was to make sure we don't get people joining Dyxum just to use the forum to make money.. We want members who will give to the community as well as benefiting from it.

I'd take a benign view on people responding to requests from other members (and it is me who will be moderating, at least at first) but as this forum is a little different from what we have had before, there is an element of dealing with issues as we go along.

Sales stuff should be posted in sales and should be in line with the rules over there.
