Exactly. Shooting from the hip or the calves for that matter, it is an absolute advantage.
In addition, try taking video while sitting in a fast boat without some screen flexibility. Impossible. It's fun and the results are meaningful.

So, the A7IV is released and it seems to me that a lot of effort has gone into the video capacities of the camera. I'd rather they had saved money by not doing that and make it a stills photography camera only and sell in for a lower price!

But it does seem like it will be an excellent camera and I understand the emphasis on video features -- its what a lot of buyers want.

The pluses are the bump in senor resolution, and EVF resolution, improved AF performance, the newer menus, the improved body ergonomics, better AF on button, and joystick, and more. I think they improved the focus point color from grey only, which was a negative on the A7III. It is said to be compatible with the LA-EA5, but I haven't seen that in writing yet. The shutter is set closed -- a good thing for avoiding sensor dust when changing lenses.

As I've already mentioned, I'm not a fan of the flippy screen, but can live with it. I think the new exposure comp dial might be trouble for me and others. As far as I know it still has no built in GPS.

Well, I don't need a new camera yet, so I won't preorder, but I will buy it down the road if I do need something new.
I might skip this generation and go for version V! Of course the danger there, might be that the A7V might be video only, the way things are going! It seems everyone wants to blog, make YouTube videos and shoot selfies!

Gerald Undone agrees with you on the 24mp but adds that it is the best hybrid camera for the money. If you want a video centric camera get the A7s3.

I assume anyone with an R-series a7 doesn't care much about video.

The readout speed definitely matters for stills. I mostly use the electronic shutter and would appreciate a faster electronic shutter. It seems weird that the electronic shutter on the A7IV is no faster than one in the A7RIV. The A7IV supposedly has a faster processor and about the half the pixels.
