Pic-a-Song

Challenge for February 2012

Talk Thread

This is the talk thread for the challenge

A quick recap of the rules:

A chance to be creative with images inspired by song titles

  • Day 1: We'll give you 10 different song titles.
You have two weeks in which to plan, take and post your images that are inspired by those titles.
There will be a thread for each song title, and you post a single shot for 5, 7 or even all 10 titles, some time within the two weeks.
  • Day 15: We'll give you another 10 titles, and you have another two weeks to produce images inspired by those new ones

Feel free to be inspired by the song title in any way you choose; literally, figuratively, emotionally etc
Perhaps it's a line within the song or the story itself - tell us when you post so we can all share your vision and inspiration!
Just paint a picture and tell a story with your image that somehow ties in with the title

  • Just one image per title
  • Complete freedom of how you take or process the image; the aim is to illustrate the song title - how you do that is up to you!
  • You are free to use both A-mount and E-mount (NEX) equipment
  • Please state your EXIF data below your shot and especially the camera type for this Challenge
  • Optionally impose other restrictions on yourself to make it more challenging if you want, and list these when you sign up restricting lens, crop, processing etc

You are expected to comment on the photographs posted by others as this is a valuable part of the challenge for everyone.
This may be the most important rule of all, but the degree of commenting will vary right up to a few stars who will comment on every image.
Do what you're able, but the more the better and everyone's opinion counts - just remember the aim to be encouraging and helpful, even if critical.

Within the 'challenges' section of the forum, there will be:

  • A thread for each song title
  • An outtakes thread for extra images that don't make it as your main selection
  • This talk thread for comments, feedback and general chatter
  • A thumbnails thread where all participants should post thumbnails of their photos linked to the posts containing big versions
  • A voting thread so between us we can pick our favourites from the challenge to display in a gallery

*** BONUS SONG ***
If you complete all of the 10 titles given, then you are allowed to also post an entry in the *** Bonus Song *** thread
(don't say we didn't listen to your requests for your own titles

It's not too late!

Great you started posting..
And very nice and creative thinking.
Probably a lot of people are still thinking about what and how.

For me it was just an OFF day. My coffee machine broke and I am a big coffee addict with about 20 cups a day.
After that my computer card reader did not function so I could not load any pictures. I had already placed the box of the A77 far away and the usb-connection cable was still in the box.
So.. I was out shopping today.. and I am enjoying my second cup of coffee right now.
My coffee- and cardreaderless day did not quite inspire me today.

Great start Alan, good to be off the mark and exactly right

I'm still struggling for an idea for "For the Roses" that doesn't involve visiting a cow field

I thought it will start faster. I guess the weekend will start things moving (at least for me...).

Great start Alan! You already have one prize in your pocket - the first photo!

Will the threads for each song be started in the given order by Jetsplace or the people of the Alpha Eyes group? Or anybody can start the thread for each song any time, as long as it is between Feb 1st and 15th?

The Threads for each song are already made.. The moment you have a picture ready you can post it in the dedicated thread. So you don't have to wait for anybody.

You can see in the A Whiter Shade of Pale thread that alanfrombangor has already posted his picture as first overthere.
edit - and if you also have the picture for A whiter Shade of Pale you put it below the one from alanfrombangor.

And if you have for example - Where the streets have no name (or any other) - ready.. please go ahead and post it.

I read somewhere that the line in kodachrome "everything looks worse in black and white" was originally "everything looks better in black and white", but Paul Simon came under pressure not to upset Kodak.

*** Bonus Song ***
You'll now spot an 11th song for the 1st fortnight with the rules updated with the details.

So we listened to your requests for your own song titles, but you're going to have to work for it

You're only allowed to post a song with your own title, once you have complete and posted all the other 10
