Pic-a-Song

Challenge for February 2012

Thumbnails Thread

This is the thread for posting your 'thumbnails' for the challenge.
It will let you build up a mini gallery of your own shots for the challenge.

Rules:
  • no talk please, we have the Talk Thread for this purpose,
  • There should be exactly one post for each Pic-a-Song participant,
  • In this post please place small versions of your shots linked to the post where the original is placed, e.g. use the following tags but REMOVE THE SPACES:
    [ URL=link_to_the_song_thread_post_with_original][ IMG]link_to_the_photo[/IMG]

How to post thumbnails
N.B. I'm going to need to use { and } in place of square brackets; you'll need to replace those in the final version

Basically you want something with this structure at it's heart:

{URL=post}{IMG}thumbnail{/IMG}{/URL}

All you then have to do is fill in post and thumbnail correctly.

thumbnail will be the web address of your thumbnail, in the same way that you used the web address of your main image.
Your image hosting service may provide a way to return a thumbnail sized version of your shot, or if not, create and upload one yourself and then use that. (that's what I do: 150x150 pixels with a dark grey background)

post is the link to the post that you created within the challenge thread. If you look at that post, find your user name on the left, then a little to the right you'll see either a little blue circle or a yellow star. Click on that and it will take your post to the top of the visible page, and then in the address bar at the top of your browser will be the exact address of your individual post. Copy and paste that in place of post

So in my case for day 3 of CYC III:
thumbnail is http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7147/6722511297_011cc2407e_o.jpg
and
post is http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/cyc-iii-day-3_topic83717_post978382.html#978382

and so the resulting code for my thumbnail will be:

{URL=http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/cyc-iii-day-3_topic83717_post978382.html#978382}{IMG}http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7147/6722511297_011cc2407e_o.jpg{/IMG}{/URL}

remembering to swap the curly brackets for square ones and ensuring you have no extra spaces; the thumbnail itself will be:

When you add a new image, don't start a new thumbnail post, just edit your existing thumbnail post and add a similar entry for the next one, maybe with 4 or 5 spaces between the entries.

Note: When you do go back to edit, you may spot that post now includes some extra auto-generated stuff on the end with " rel="nofollow. Don't worry about this, and remove it if it confuses you - you're original code won't need any quotes.

Hope this helps - do ask if you need any help
