I have not found a way to post 500px images directly to Dyxum, somehow the 500px image code (with many "special" characters and without the .jpg at the end) is incompatible with the Dyxum forum software.

Time for a paid account on Flickr or SmugMug (or another host) maybe.

Itīs a long time since I published any pics here. For me it is far too much trouble to first upload to a hosting site and then copy link and after that start Dyxum to paste that link.

I whish that we in a not to far away future will be able to upload directly to Dyxym. How much would that cost Dyxum and how much would we have to pay for that? I doubt it will be astronomical sums.

Perhaps time to update the software?

Paying is not really an option. I am willing to go as far as finding/using an alternative free host but paying just to post on dyxum alone is not going to sell it.

So do we know which options work for sure? (Apart from Flickr that is)

@Michael Johansson: I'm afraid Dyxum will never become a site where you can post images directly, even for a fee. The site is free and totally run by volunteers and starting something like that would take a professional approach, decent finances/accounting and a lot more work all of which is not in the cards right now. If it's too much trouble for you to go via a hosting site so be it but don't hold your breath for us to change that principle.

@nandbytes, if paying is not an option you can either use google (there is a workaround) or maybe something like IMGUR could be another option (unlimited uploads and problem free linking). Updating the software just for the 500px linking is unrealistic, it would mean changing to another package which is a lot of work to recreate the enormous history we have (including the databases etc.) while there are so many free/cheap options available to link images on here.

In general pls. realize Dyxum is free, run by volunteers and not a commercial enterprise and we're planning to stay that way even though it might mean a little more work and effort of our members, but that's in our mind a very small price to pay for all the free goodies you're getting here.

I pay for hosting of some websites I run - which gives me far more space that I will ever use for the websites, so I use it to host pictures for Dyxum. I do have some images on flickr, but I don't really trust any of the free sites to a) continue to exist and b) continue to be free - so many of the lost links on Dyxum are down to these issues.

I do realize that you guys do great work running this forum and everyone is a volunteer. At the same time please keep in mind that paying is up to the individual and not something to advocate users to do.

It seems you missed my subtle point but my response about upgrading the forum was more intended as a tit-for-tat response to you suggesting paid option. I appreciate that kinda response sometimes isn't nice but it was done in good humour rather than a snide response. Basically just as you guys have limitations, we do too and sometimes not something someone would openly want to discuss.

If any one or I wanted to pay for Flickr we'd have already done so and wouldn't have posted here in the first place. Since I have posted asking for help and alternatives shows I am not keen on paying.

I do not understand why it was a faux pas to mention payed options. Just like Pegelli did with regard to Dyxum, you can explain that it is not an option for you. However, the free options are getting less and less.

With regard to hosting on Dyxum - I used to frequent a forum that offered hosting, but I never used it as it is easier to host at one place and on all the forums just link to that place. A place like smugmug is also a better place to share pictures wit non photographic friends.

Well basically my intention is to eventually host my own website which I'd be paying for anyway and i'd able to link to it from everywhere. I agree that having a forum's own hosting is not ideal if you follow multiple forums and have to manage various sources. Single source is very useful.

Also I already pay for other cloud backup service, rather not add another one to the list and eat into my web hosting dreams and funding

It seems you missed my subtle "maybe" after my suggestion which was intended to leave the choice entirely to you

But no hard feelings and indeed setting up your own "single source" website might be a better option for you than a payed hosting site.

You could try Joomeo which works for me (and is free). There's a limit though.

Hi Peter, is this what you'd like to link? (I've chosen Flickr's small image size link)

In flickr at the bottom right of the image there are some icons (star, right arrow, down arrow). I chose the "right arrow" icon, selected the BBCode tab then "Small 240 x 135". I then copied the BBCode and pasted it into Dyxum.

Hope this helps!

Hi Pete, I have deleted two of your tries but left the first one in place.

It's exactly as James (clk230) says, that should work perfectly (click the right curved arrow and then paste from the "BBcode" tab at any size smaller than 1024 pixels long side)

The problem you had is that you were trying to link to a flickr page, and not to the actual image uploaded on the flickr site.

Hope this helps
