Sorry everyone for resurrecting this thread but I'm up the proverbial creek now. At the end of last year I consolidated all of my non essential outgoings and as a result I haven't renewed my SmugMug account or my personal website and domain name.
Dyxum has been my go to forum for my photography habit since 2007 but now I seem to have removed any facility to post photos here for the challenges etc. I do have a free Google account and have posted a couple of images in a shared Google Photos album and, using a Chrome browser I can right click a photo and generate a bb code snippet. But I cannot for the life of me find a way of posting it in to a new message with either a direct paste, or using the http:// link or the picture link. It was simple with SmugMug as I simply posted the BB code into the message text. I have searched the web and Dyxum but despite some out of date references I cannot get it to work. Laughably I used to be good at this and had no problem posting photos and thumbnails with all the right links but now I am stuffed (too much Christmas turkey ). Can anyone provide a walk through for Google Photos or recommend an alternative that doesn't require me to subscribe every month please? TIA Brian Edited by bonneville - 02 January 2021 at 11:40 |

@bonne/brian - as a long term google photos user (used just for backup of phone photos) ... I doubt it would be simple to share into a forum (permission and all). I'd view google photos as more of a mini-back-up option rather than a sharing service (google doesn't get/do/understand social).
I would recommend a free imgur account search term: how to share an imge posted to imgur ( that lists the 4 simple steps: 'get share links' being one of them ) EDIT - and on imgur's own help pages: - FAQ for Forum Users https://help.imgur.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003264766-FAQ-for-Forum-Users- Basically, the polite thing to do is link back to imgur and use the simple links they provide you with. They support the idea of posting your images into a forum - the image you post (via the official imgur route) will be clickable and take viewers directly to the image in your imgur account. So you might need to think about who you want see "all" the photos you put there. A dedicated 'my imgur account for dyxum posts' would make sense. (there are ways to link to deep links, which some flickr users do, it is bad practice and I think against flickr TOS) Edited by dCap - 02 January 2021 at 12:27 |

@dCap Very Many Thanks. Problem solved with a swift Google sign in to Imgur. I have just uploaded a past Dyxum image to a Dyxum dedicated album, copied the BB Code link, pasted it here and:
Ta Da! Thanks again. Now I can resume my Dyxuming |

Anybody figured out how to post from Amazon?
Here's my pic link: https://www.amazon.com/photos/shared/wUxykrLRSNGHXovNSwySvA.YozBVI9rirra04NuU0SI4Q How do I share it as an inline image? Thanks. |

I suspect that Amazon, like google do not allow sharing as an image in forums like this. To share here you need a web address for the image file (usually a .jpg file, in Amazon's case .jfif). As the owner of the image you may be able to access such a link, I am unable to do so via your link - though I can, of course, see it on Amazon's site.

I've used Google photos for many years now to share here. Google gives out such a URL but I can append "#-.jpg" at the end to make it work on Dyxum. I learned that from another member who posted how to share Google images.

Any idea why my images wouldn't load here? I'm just using IMG link IMG. Nothing from my host is blocking.

Does anyone use imgur as an image hosting site? I do see one member above but it's more of a social media/memes site.

I used it for 2-3 years for a non-photo hobby (for sharing app screen shots). It has a FAQ about grabbing the correct code for "posting to forums" (as per the link above). So a legit reason to use it and something they support. I imagine when photobucket and flickr 'did their thing' that imgur got some uptick in use. Simple to use. Yes it is full of memes - don't view it as a 'flickr alt'. It is a reliable route to posting forum images. I might even make a new one just for dyxum images. Deleted my other one once I was done with it - socials are temporary now. EDIT - note that I used it as a stand-alone, created an account, uploaded images for sharing. I did NOT link it to any of my google accounts (might want to read the full terms before doing that and see what access you're giving). As an 'upload this image, share to here' option I liked it (and read the terms with that in mind). Edited by dCap - 04 January 2021 at 22:29 |

The URL should be to an image (ie a file with an image type extension such as .jpg Enclose this between IMG and /IMG each enclosed in square brackets [] (img/IMG both work). Alternatively click the picture icon in the toolbar on the post editor, paste in the URL and the editor will do the rest. However, the tools always put their output at the end of a post, you may need to cut & paste if you want it earlier. |

@ricardovaste: Try posting an image in this thread to illustrate the problem. I can take a look at the raw post code and see how it looks. Hopefully I can help.
