This is to start thread for all kind of projection lenses.
I'll start with a new find, the Isco Gottingen Kiptagon f1.3/15-30mm. Picked it up for a few euro's. It was used on 8mm film projectors (eg. Rollei P8 and Eumig Eupronet). #1 The lens ![]() It's a small lens with some 32mm mount diameter. I liked the zebra design. I have put it in a M42 lens cap. I screwed the cap on some m42 tubes and a helicoid to mount it on my A7R2. The 8mm is a bit of a challenge on modern digital camera's since it has a small field of view. In the 15mm it is almost unusable, at 30mm it creates a planet view on full frame. #2 ![]() In APS-C mode, and cropped to square it is usable, but with limited options. It has a tendency to swirl, but the 8mm field of view is just to small to show that in full glory. #3 ![]() #4 ![]() #5 ![]() #6 ![]() #7 ![]() It helped to use center meeting. Multi segment method gave an over-exposed centre. All in all an nice experiment for just a few euro's. Feel free to add your projection lens experiments and pictures to this thread. |

Next in line: The Leitz Wetzlar Elmaron 2.8/150m projection lens.
This lens came from my fathers Leitz Pradovit slide projector. ![]() This one is in a focussing helicoid tube. ![]() The tube has a 54mm thread at the bottom. With an adapter ring I converted that to m42 thread, which enables easy mounting via macro tubes/helidoid to A or E mount. I have two other versions with different FL's too (2.8/100mm and a 3.6/200mm). The collection is not complete yet, there are at least Elmaron projection lenses like 2.8/50mm, a 2.8/85mm, a 2.8/120mm and a 3.2/150mm too. The Elmaron has a good centre sharpness and a nice characterful bokeh, which can bubble too. Here some examples. #1 Leaf (On Fuji C200 film with lens on Minolta AF7000) ![]() #2 Zeeuws knoopje (with lens on A99) ![]() #3 Swing (with lens on A99ii) ![]() #4 Tulips (with lens on A99ii) ![]() #5 Birdhouse (with lens on A99ii) ![]() Edited by Fred_S - 05 January 2021 at 21:01 |

I really like the photos in today's posts.
Pretty amazing! Wonder, have you ever bought/found/used a 'security camera' lens? I was under the impression that a LOT of the 'exciting/new' manual focus f/1.something and f/0.something lenses were re-branded $20 security camera optics with a substantial mark up (is this a complete myth?). |

Thanks both! Yes, it's a nice lens. A bit bulky to use, but I like its bokeh.
@dCap: Interesting question, but no, I don't have experience with 'security camera lenses' You can find plenty of them, especially when you look for C-mount lenses on the web. I may try one later. The rumour about rebranded security lenses is new to me. Maybe others know more about that? |

Some of the lenses aren't showing their better quality here although most of these are similar. Various levels of flare, ring and some swirl bokeh

Leitz Wetzlar Elmaron 150mm 2.8 sunset grass low light so it's heavily edited for contrast and colour. It's got a loose element and was tilted for the painterly out of focus, no motion blur.

I read somewhere that many projection lenses were based on Peztval portrait lenses (a design from the 1850s), so it's interesting to see some images from them. I have a few Rolleis I must try to dig out.

Holiday, at home and poor weather: a good time to get an earlier aquisition going
![]() It is the Old Delft Delitar f/3 F=10.5cm projection lens, from a Delita slide projector. The projector (ca. 1950) has its own built in transformer for 33, 110 and 220 Volt. #1 Unboxing ![]() #2 Delitar f/3 f=10.5cm ![]() It was easier than expected to detach he lens. Just unscrewing three tiny screws to remove it from the helicoid contstruction. I had found only one 'Delitar' picture on the web. That was very swirly. I haven't found the swirl yet, but it's certainly a lens with character and potential. #3 Mounted ![]() And some test shots, mainly to find out the character #4 ![]() #5 ![]() #6 ![]() #7 ![]() #8 ![]() #9 ![]() |
