Nice shot of the Duchess
![]() And the old gentleman on the platform certainly adds to the right atmosphere for the shot. |

Thank you. Others who have seen the picture agree with you. I have a shot taken a fraction earlier where the gentleman doesn't quite get into the frame and it feels like something is missing when both are viewed. |

Always love the rail shots into infinity. If you ever get the chance, try setting your camera on the rail and take some shots. They sometimes can be amazing. Never have gotten one of those long distance shot such as you have here myself, this is the closest I've gotten. Yours is really great IMO!

Nice Grand Canyon railroad photos, hope you enjoyed the Grand Canyon. Haven't seen that particular steam engine, but thats what an early American steam engine should look like, IMO. Looks quite like the one I photographed in South Dakota, at Black Hills Central RR
I understand that a Grand Canyon steam engine may be back on display or hopefully running. I'll check that out, although it may be the one I photographed a few years back and not the one In your photo. I'm hopeful that they will be doing tours again at the Grand Canyon restoration shop in Williams, AZ. I would enjoy that. |

Super photos Pieter! I've been to Williams and the Grand Canyon, but have never seen the RR in operation. So thanks very much for sharing.
GCRR Engine 18 was built in 1910 by Alco and is a 2-8-0 Consolisdation type. Joe, they have had photo charters in the past at the GCRR, though I think they are quite expensive. Higher than the NNRY photo charters. Still, I'd like to do the Grand Canyon RR photo shoot one of these days, if we ever get beyond this pandemic! Regards, Kelly |

Thanks Doc. I hear you on the pandemic😟. Very good info on engine 18😀
but just an FYI: the railroad is running trains 7 days a week. The Grand Canyon is open Although I am mindful of your condition On the GCRR photoshoot, if you want to do the train ride in a dome car, make sure you bring a wheel barrow full of cash. Having lived in Flagstaff once and been to the Canyon more times than can count, the trip as far as I know is just a straight, flat ride through the high desert. Once you get there you will be at the Magnificent Canyon but thats it. Not much to take photos of during the ride I'll tell you what I'm doing, looking to take a scenic railroad trip just south of the Canyon hopefully this month; Verde Canyon Railroad train ride in Clarkdale Arizona That looks to be quite scenic. Photos to come, hopefully |
