These children's railway are from the Soviet times. There is even an English Wikipedia page on them: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Children%27s_railway

45690, named Leander, was built at Crewe in 1936 and withdrawn from service in July 1964 by which time it had travelled 1,589,826 miles. It was rescued from Woodhams scrapyard and restored to main line condition. Here it is rushing past Pentre Du crossing in north Wales with a charter from Liverpool to Holyhead.

Wonderful photo Alan!

Beautiful locomotive and landscape! I love the grasses in the foreground and mountain, trees, and dramatic clouds in the background! A very nice composition! Judging by the black smoke she was working hard. Perhaps moving at a good clip? The only possible nit, might be that cell tower might be considered a distraction, depending on one's point of view!
Very nice work!

Regards,

Kelly

Thanks Kelly, that tower wasn't there on my last visit, I was not pleased to see it. I tried a 5x4 crop to eliminate it which maybe works better, I can't decide which I prefer. The train was certainly moving at a swift pace.

It's a nice shot Alan.
FWIW I like the framing of the first shot better.
Maybe removing the cell tower would be an alternative?

I'd never seen this locomotive before, although several of its class have been preserved in working order, so I took the bus to Llandudno Junction for a look. Here it's running round its stock.

And after being watered, leaving for the scenic Conwy Valley branch.

A short walk to Conwy station, where this artwork is intended to discourage trespassing on the track.

A freight from the nearby granite quarry was a little early and took me by surprise, just managing to get the rather ugly diesel in the frame.
