Very nice set of photos, Gigo! An empty passenger coach? I was lucky to have had the experience of riding the train from Tokyo to Tokorozawa for several weeks in the early 80s. Those trains were always jam-packed. These coaches are designed to carry many standing passengers thus the many hanging rings for passengers to hold on to. I always enjoy a glimpse into railroading in other places, so I appreciate your sharing these photos with us! Thank you!
Regards,
Kelly

Wow Doc that's a once in a lifetime shot #40
All the activity. When I was there, there was zero going on 40 was in the engine house all alone. Thats when I realized when I got up close, they were really just over grown teapots ha ha. I don't think they were accepting government money back then.
Very cool photos.    BTW thats a lot of snow on your diesel photo. How are you guys in Utah doing with snow? We're setting record amounts everywhere down here. They are predicting Super Blooms all over the place

Thanks, Joe!

Yeah, poor No. 40! Bare bones, for sure. You can see her driving wheels in the Machine Shop photo that I posted and "No. 40 is Alive!" from 2019 shows what a beautiful old timer she was when operational! What a contrast! Of course I couldn't resist the Movie Quotes. These wonderful old machines do seem alive when steaming! Both 40 and 93 were out of commision for this photo shoot. We only had Baldwin Steam Engine No. 81 and Baldwin Diesel No. 801.

Kelly

Beautiful old trams, Domien! Seems that they are wonderfully preserved/restored. I like that the destination and line number seem original. In the second photo, is that a person standing on that balcony, or an manikin? Very nice photos! Thanks!

thanks, Kelly
The guy in the second photo is the driver. Standing up was the way to go then.
I have many more and will add some more later.

Domien, I actually meant on the building behind the tram. There is a colorful person up there, on the balcony or next to the balcony. An interesting detail!

More views of the Great Central 9F

92214 was built at Swindon in October 1959 and was withdrawn from service in August 1965 after a ridiculasly short life based mainly in south Wales. It was sold as scrap to Woodham Brothers and remained in the scrapyard at Barry until December 1980 when it was bought for preservation but not restored to steam until July 2003.

Beautiful set of photos, Alan!

Wow, she was young! 1959! That was a late build for a steam locomotive and then only in operation util 1965! Lucky thing that she managed to survive the scrap yard. I especially like the second and third photos, but they are all great! TFS!

Regards,

Kelly

Thank Kelly, 92214 was just six short of 92220, the last steam locomotive to be built for the national network.
