Syd,
Very nice work! Especially like the first one with JA1240 exiting the tunnel with the fireman leaning out of the cab! Regards, Kelly |

Thanks Kelly. Steam always has that romance about it. In saying that the rural fire fighters might not have been in the same mind as this train caused 13 kilometres of fires along the tracks. It have been a very dry summer here. On the return trip it was not much more than a token as it was diesel assisted. Syd |

Very nice photos Peter and Mathieu! Especially like the first photo of the MAV 424. Nice composition and exposure.
Very, very wide, Mathieu! Guess I'll have to go home -- don't have anything that wide! ![]() ![]() Regards, Kelly |

I visited Echo Canyon Friday and enjoyed a little mountain air, sun and train watching on the UP's overland route. As luck would have it I arrived I arrived a bit, but still was able to catch this Z train double stack heading west down Echo Canyon. I would like to have had an extra ten minutes to navigate over to the opposite side to have the sun more at my back. Still, there was enough light to get a little detail and glow on the back side.

After the previous shot I was able to make it safely over to the other side and a while later I captured this photo of the Eastbound Z train making its way up the canyon. You can see the big difference in lighting from this angle.

A different angle -- UP7437 heading up Echo Canyon. I like the contrasting colors and shapes of the double stack in Echo Canyon.

While waiting for trains I love taking in the surrounding scenery and wildlife. I try to picture what is was like for those men so long ago, laying the original rails for the Transcontinental railroad. They had to be tough. Did they gaze up at this canyon rim anxiously? What might be lurking up there? Did they watch for smoke signals?
