Sweet, Mathieu!
You managed to capture a somewhat rare sighting of the Rio Grande Heritage Locomotive! |

UP 6880 in Echo Canyon, Utah.
![]() UP 6880, a very weathered looking AC44CW, contrasts with the newer paint of the second locomotive in this set. This grain train is heading westward down Echo Canyon. We enjoyed beautiful spring weather yesterday here in Utah, thankfully, because I had to wait more than an hour for her to appear. In the mean time, the sun shifted from ideal to almost head on with the train, and the most of the clouds drifted out of frame to the right. This is all a day in the life of the railroad photographer. ![]() ![]() Sony A99, ZA 50mm f1.4, 1/500, f8.0 ISO 320. B&W Kaesemann CPL. Edited by AudioDoc - 22 March 2015 at 21:30 |

Thanks, Kelly. I appreciate that. The picture was taken at Steamtown National Historic Site.
Love your Echo Canyon image. I expect to see a cowboy on horseback on the top of the little hill on the right border just sort of watchin' the train go by. ![]() |

Thanks, Kelly! I didn't even know the Rio Grande was coming... sometimes you luck out.

Thank you, Walt. One might very well see a cowboy on horseback here. There are indeed ranches in the canyon and surrounding area. I always envision the builders of the transcontinental railroad grading, laying ballast, ties and rails through this canyon, actually the very grade this train is running on way back in 1888 and 1889. Their progress was photographed by A.J. Russel for the Union Pacific railroad. Perhaps his most famous photo is of the Golden Spike ceremony at Promontory.
Hey, perhaps those clouds are actually smoke signals? ![]() Regards, Kelly Edited by AudioDoc - 23 March 2015 at 13:54 |

Hey, Mathieu, another beautiful winter photo, with snow!
And I need to congratulate you for that last entry that landed in the Dyxum Exhibition. Great work. One of these days I'd like to make it to Steamtown! Regards, Kelly |

Thank you very much, Mathieu!
I guess you could say, this time my patients paid off! I think I waited almost 1 and 1/2 hours for this guy to show up! Regards, Kelly |
