Not far up the road is a set of ruins that are about 1000 years older, Wroxeter Roman City, or Viroconium Cornoviorum, the fourth largest city in Roman Britain.


Public Bath House and The Old Work | A7 III

English Heritage say it is 'roughly the same size as Pompeii in Italy, but only a fraction of it can be seen today. Its excellent state of preservation is due to the fact that only small areas of it have been excavated.'
