I used to have this lens paired with a900 body, loved its color and bokeh!

Anyway, Harrisons Cameras in the UK has a Minolta Reflex AF 500mm for 225 GBP - I was tempted, but I do not really have a use case for it.

have you owned one before? You'd be amazed at the use cases that appear with such a long, light and discrete lens. Street photography with that lens is just one surprising use case.

I have a Minolta AF 500mm f8 Reflex. These are fabulous lenses and compact/light enough to throw into your camera bag for general shooting. It's surprising what you'll see when you have one with you. They are extremely sharp and I reckon one of the best Reflex lenses ever.

Nice photos! I was concerned about the sharpness of the lens because of reflex design, however, it looks pretty sharp and good for street and candid shots.

The f8 is pretty slow, does it work wel with LA EA4 adapters? Is AF fast and reliable?

How’s its sharpness compared to the sony 500 reflex?

The design is superb and I think the AF helps a hell of a lot to make it one of the sharpest 500mm Reflex lenses ever made. I made sure I had 1/500th sec or faster shutter speed and for these, I also used a monopod.
These were taken with the LA-AE4 adapter: it works really well and the combination remains very compact for such a 'long' lens.

I believe the Sony has no changes and is just a rebranded Minolta AF.

The 500 f/8 is very well regarded.
Pretty much the only thing to watch out for is the framing to make sure you don't end up with the donuts for the bokeh.
More Dyxumer, less photographer.
