I believe this was the first L lens for EF mount
does it AF with MC-11?

Yes it was, introduced in Jun 1987, the second one, the 300/2.8L was introduced in November.
It does autofocus with MC-11 on my A6000, but it is painfully slow. And it is a coffee grinder anyway.
