Samples: Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 135mm F3.5

There are three versions of this classic Sonnar design prime from the former GDR - East Germany:
  1. 1965: Carl Zeiss Jena 135mm F3.5 Sonnar MC - Zebra
  2. 19??: aus JENA S 135mm F3.5
  3. 1975: Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar MC 135mm F3.5

mount: M42
format: FF
year: 1965 | 19?? | 1975
max aperture: F3.5
min aperture: F22
elements/group: 4 in 3
aperture blades: 6
min focus distance (mm): 1000
filter diameter (mm): 49
length (mm): 890
weight (g): 430

additional information:

(1) Metal barrel with a knurled focusing ring and ribbed aperture ring and A/M switch.
(2) "aus JENA" was apparently an "export brand name" for Carl Zeiss lens; "S" is an abbreviation for Sonnar
(3) Lens Hood: Built-in

I've had this lens for ages but I was trying to use it on my Nex-6 and it was just too long to be terribly useful. It wasn't really worth using on my A850 because I also have the AF Minolta 100mm f2.0. However, I'm trying it out on my new A7 and rather liking it.

It's pretty damn sharp with lovely bokeh and min focal distance is about a metre so pretty close. Here's a few I snapped today in the garden. Mostly wide open but the first one at f5.6 IIRC.

Technical info:

Format: FF
Number of blades: 6
Elements/Groups: 4 elements in 3 groups
Minimum focal distance: 0.90 meters
Filter size: 49mm
Weight: 430g
Dimensions: 55x89mm

An old one taken just after I bought it on the A200. I think it was f5.6 or maybe f8 but I'm not 100%.
