Sorry if I´m coming into your post, but lately I´m falling in love with this lens. It´s about 200 € in ebay, more or less the cost of a beercan with the plus of the need of a leitax adapter. Is it better, really better than a beercan? In terms of sharpness, contrast, etc. If there is someone who can hep me, I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks, and sorry about my bad english.

If you're paying 200 Euro for a beercan, we either have different ideas of which lens is "the beercan" or you're going way overboard.

Most commonly, "the beercan" refers to the Minolta AF 70-210/4. In the US, they run from about $70 to about $140. For $140 it had better be in mint condition, with all the original parts (hood, box, etc).

I don't know what European prices are, but I seriously doubt they're *that* much higher. Even if they are, you can import one from the US, and it'll still save you money, even after tariffs.

Perhaps the lens you're thinking of is the Minolta AF 135/2.8? That one is sometimes called "the pocket rocket", but the name doesn't seem to be as commonly used as "the beercan" for the 70-210/4.
Sony a3000, a6000, a57, a99 - Sony E 16-50, 28/2 | Vivitar 13, 85 | Minolta 24, 28-105, 35-105, 50/1.7, 75-300 | Tokina 28-70/2.6-2.8 | Sigma 70/2.8 Macro | Tamron 70-200/2.8 | Celestron 1000/11

Sorry,my mistake. The beercan is about 100-125 € here in Europe. The 135 2.8 is 200-240 € in the second hand market. Anyway, my doubt is about the quality of the sonnar compared to those af minoltas. Thanks

I have the Minolta 135mm f/2.8 and I am really happy with it .
I haven't used the Contax one to compare it with , but I have used Contax 35mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.4 on film cameras, and they give very good results .

200 euros seems a good price for the Minolta , plus you have autofocus and image stabilisation. If your camera is an SLT (with focus peeking) rather than a DSLR , then manual focus will be much easier .

CA and sharpness is way better with this lens compared to the 70-210/4 beercan. I owned two of the beercans and they really disappointed me. Though back in the days of the KM 7d.... 70-200/2.8 SSM were hard to get. Nothing left to buy at a reasonable price, except the 2nd hand beercan which made it a legendary lens among minolta digital shooters. What helped the legend claim was the possible 'designed for Leica' trumor.

The C/Y Zeiss is way better in almost every aspect.

Due to the A7/A7r/A7s MF-zoom option I just don't feel that AF is missing.

One of the most annoying things around the beercan was the hunting of its focus mechanics/AF-drive.

just my 2 cents
