Samples: Hartblei Super-Rotator TS 45mm F3.5

mount: Mamiya 645, Pentax 645, Contax 645, Pentacon Six
format: 6x4,5cm or 6x6 cm
year: 2003-
max aperture: F3.5
min aperture: F22
elements/group: 8/7
aperture blades: 6
min focus distance (mm): 350
filter diameter (mm): 82
length (mm): 110
weight (g): 880

additional information:
shift movement range (mm): 0-12
tilt movement range: 0-8°

The super-rotator mechanism allows for independent 360° rotation of both, the shift and the tilt movements (click stops every 15°).

The lens uses an improved version (e.g. by multi-coating) of the Mir 26b lens design. It reaches its highest resolution at F16.

The shift movement can extend a FF sensor (24x36mm) by a total of 24mm vertically or horizontally to create a shift panorama - either a 48x36mm or a 24x60mm. The latter will usually suffer from visible softness at the margins (see images #8 and #9) wheras the former marks the classical approach to recreate something like a medium or large format image (ca. 8000x6000 megapixels, either moving a landscape image vertically or a portrait image horizontally, images #2, #5, #7) which shows much better sharpness at the extreme positions of the shift movements - see below for examples.

The lens version used here is that for Mamiya 645 cameras. I will add examples for the tilt movement (and its combination with shifting) later on.

You will find additional information here and here.

#1 the lens, adapted to Sony A99

#2 shift panorama F/11 - with PP (max. 6000x8000) - vertical movement

#3 (and #4) the shift stops for creation of #2

#4

#5 Shift panorama (without any PP) - vertical movement (max. 6000x8000)

#6 crop original size of #5

#7 Shift panorama (without any PP) - horizontal movement (max. 8000x6000)

#8 For comparison: Shift panorama (without any PP) - horizontal movement (max. 10000x4000) - see left/right margins (softness)

#9 For comparison: Shift panorama (without any PP) - horizontal movement (max. 10000x4000) - see left/right margins (softness)

Camera: Sony SLT-A99V with Novoflex MINA-AF/MAMRING adapter
