CAMERA: A7rM2 - LENS VERSION: 1981 RF ROKKOR 800/8 - METABONES ADAPTER
The locking assembly fell off my my ball head so these are all hand held which is a bit of a challenge but possible with this lightweight 800. I really need to take this Minolta gem out more often, these are all shot on the Somerset levels at dawn or just after. GOLDEN MORNNG A7rM2 * iso400 * 1000th (+1EV) WAITING FOR THE SUN A7rM2 * iso400 * 250th (+1EV) ANY WARMTH YET A7rM2 * iso400 * 160th (+1EV) HERE COMES THE SUN A7rM2 * iso400 * 80th (+1EV) LEAVING A7rM2 * iso800 * 320th (+1EV) TO WAKE OR NOT TO WAKE ..... A7rM2 * iso800 * 250th () |

If it's white, then it's the 1981 MD3.
If it's black and says 80cm, then it's the original MC-X. If it's Black and says 800/RF, then it's either MD1 or 2. |

Interesting to see images from this lenses which I remember well from Minolta's advertising folder back in the 70ies and 80ies.
Seems that this lens shows less donut shape bokeh than the Minolta/Sony AF f/8-500mm which I owned for some time. |

The doughnuts are still a feature but not always obvious.

I have found that when the background is darker, the donuts are more visible. It's still not as noticible as the 500/8.
I really need to get out with mine some more. |

Perhaps the lower amount of donut shape bokeh is related to the relation FL/f-stop - or better: the size of the central obstruction since it's the same f/8 for both the 500mm and the 800mm. So the 800mm is "faster" with less of the front opening taken by the 2nd mirror.

The relative size of the obstruction is essentially the same for both lenses.
Somewhat softer donuts are a logical result of the narrower depth of field of an 800mm lens. |

How about some images with the 800 rather than of the 800

I'll dig some out of the archives when I get a chance. Meanwhile, I thought others would like to see what these beasts look like next to their little cousins. |
