I need to try this with my 44 (no -2), it doesn't swirl that much and doesn't impress otherwise either, but maybe it'll make a good one trick pony lens

I did it
 It's not hard at all, especially since I've had some practice in opening lenses because I've just cleaned a little fungus out of three lenses the night before. Hope I can try it out this weekend!

The good thing about home office - can catch the morning dew, finally a good subject for a Helios-44 with reversed front element
I've also used an extension cube for shorter MFD.1.  2.  3.  I like the effect best in #2, I think I closed the aperture a bit for that shot. |

That has been my approach as well with this conversion. I find it too swirly wide open. #2 is very nice indeed!
