Seems an A99 problem. It fits on my Minolta 7000 with the m42 adapter. Probably have to grind a bit of a pin at the bottom of the takumar.... |

A sample with the TAK 55/2 and a chipped adapter on my A850. It's the wrong chip since I don't have a 55 mm / f2.0 version, so I used the closest I have with a 35 mm / f2.8 chip. Focus confirm works very well then, but AS will be slightly off (compnsating less then needed).

Would you mind sharing what adapter you're using? I've got the lens, have a Newer M42/NEX adapter that works and a very slim adapter from ebay that doesn't. I'm interested in getting the lens as close to the sensor as possible. Here are a few samples with the Newer. Apologies, they are not inserted, I am on Adobe CC as a sharing platform. Hi Land Scraper/Michael, first of all welcome to Dyxum.
On my A 850 I used an adapter like this: Link 1 On my A6000 and A7 I use an adapter like this: Link 2 It's not exactly these models, but very similar, ebay and Amazon are filled with numerous similar examples. Both types work very well for the cameras intended and allow infinity focus to the normal minimum focus distance of the lens. Why do you want your lens "as close to the sensor as possible"? The lens needs to be at the right distance for sharp focus and moving it too close it all gets blurry because you're focussing "beyond infinity" as a matter of speaking, but maybe I'm missing your point. The desire to find the smallest adapter possible is a function of not wanting a huge form factor, I am usually packing the A6000 in a bag on a bike camping / hiking / or other trip where a dedicated camera bag is just not an option because of weight. I suppose when I say "as close to the sensor as possible" I mean "as small an adapter as possible to keep the form factor compact and not ruin the ability of the camera to focus sharply" I was excited to find the 55 in this little stash of vintage lenses because I've been eyeing the Meike 50 for a while as a cheap way to get into other lenses ... what length lens would operate like a full-frame 55m on my A6000? Well, 55mm on Full Frame is equivalent field of view with 36 mm on APS-C.
Basically the conversion factor for field of view between the two formats is 1.5 If you want a smaller form factor you could look at native E-mount lenses, there's several low cost brands that have 35 mm lenses with manual focus (Meike, Neewer and others). Other option is old rangefinder lenses since they use much smaller adapters, but these are usually a bit more expensive and harder to find. Problem with old SLR lenses (like your Takumar) is that the adapter is always going to be big because these lenses were mounted in front of a big mirror box and to get sharp images the adapters for those lenses need to be long to get the lens at the right distance from the sensor. |

I recently bought a M42 helicoid adapter and that turned my SMC Takumar 55/2 into a nice macro lens.
    And a 100% (1:1) crop from the last photo  All on an A7ii |

It works pretty well as macro lens Pieter. That 100% crop is pretty good.
I have a similar lens, but haven't tried it as macro yet. |

Just seen this, so hopefully you have figured it out by now, but if not, the lens must be set to manual by the small switch at the lens base. If not the aperture pin stays out and this will catch on the camera mechanisms.
