Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 Sony E-Mount
https://edwardwilcox.smugmug.com/Resize/Resize2/i-wghNrRQ It is a lens for sale on FB marketplace. Guy wants $300 obo. He seems motivated to sell it. I am a bit afraid that the lens scratches will cause flare or impact image quality. He claims it functions well, but I would have to test it... Think I should just pass? |

Filter ring seems damaged as well. Looks like something serious happened, there might be internal damage. I would skip this one.
A single scratch on the front element for a bargain bin price might be worth it. If it was just a simple scratch, that $300,- would be fine. But with the additional damage I would not go for it. |

I agree with Addy. It seems more damaged than a simple scratch.
I'd skip also. Edited by nandbytes - 17 July 2023 at 09:30 |

I would say it's been dropped whilst on a camera, and the odds of the lens elements still lining up correctly are slim .
Forget it . |

Thx all, I was thinking the same. Just love a good deal. But sometimes a deal like this is not worth it.

I've bought a few used , high end lenses with a very small mark to the front element at a significant reduction.
To prevent flair I've used a bit of ink in it and never had a problem. But this is only when it's had a slight mark due to catching on something or rubbing on something in a camera bag without a lens cap . Lenses that have had impact damage are always iffy . Damage might also have happened to the focus and zoom mechanisms , and might not necessarily be repairable. Certainly not always cost effective . It's not like it's an uncommon lens either. |

I was mainly thinking of this as a cheap 28-70 2.8 for my secondary body. But I do have a 16-35 f4 that is serving as the main lens. I am still using my Sony SAL-2470Z with la-ea5 on my a7r iv, still love it. Just heavy. |

Glad I listened and waited, got a very lightly used SEL2470GM2, missing the lens hood and cap. But
.. I got it for a steal. Thanks all |

you can replace both fairly easily, though the hood may not always be in stock. seems to be one of the best lenses around going by reviews |

Yeah the lens hood was only available from one place as it is a new type of locking lens hood, just got in and love it. The cap was easy and I actually opted for a magnetic k&f combo. Still only $600 all in for the lens. Love it so far.
