I have just had a second SD card lose the little write protect slider. The first left the slider gumming up Slot 2 in my A99ii for a few months before it finally worked its way out. I have no idea where the second slider has ended up.
I don't want to lose another - I really don't want to gum up another slot (perhaps in a one slot camera) nor do I want to lose the use of a card (without the slider they are permanently write protected). So I am minded to glue the sliders in my remaining cards (with superglue I guess). Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone else glue them in place? Does anyone have a neat solution to make cards without sliders writeable again? In the good old days of cassette recorders a bit of tape over the write protect slot would do the job, but I worry about tape falling off and fouling an SD slot. Are there SD cards on the market without this wonderful feature that I never use? |

- Were they both from the same maker? Or different ones?
- The Sony TOUGH cards I have in my Sony A7r4 do not have this locking device. Edited by addy landzaat - 19 October 2021 at 19:30 |

The question is a good one, if only I knew the answer, but I think they were different manufacturers - though different labels is no guarantee they didn't come out of the same factory. I shall try to find the first one and check. The one that has just failed is a SanDisk The Tough cards do look impressive, I may invest in a couple - but I don't really want to discard the five 64GB cards I am using at present. Though the Tough ones do look considerably better - quick aren't they. |
