Very impressive. Great eye-contact and expression on you, and your cat got some great light. It's so hard to photograph black cats.

I'm trying to figure out the light source from its reflection in your cats eyes, but I can't see it well enough. Could you explain your setup please?

Thanks!

You are right; photographing a black cat is very difficult!

The key light is a 6 foot parabolic umbrella very close to me, and I also used a softbox as a fill light.
Here is a 100% crop of the cats face, so you can see the umbrella's specular highlight.

Is that a constant light umbrella? It looks like it has a whole lot of tubes in it. Would a reflector have worked instead of the softbox? Sorry about all the questions, but I find this photo very impressive.

No worries. The umbrella was attached to a studio strobe - an AlienBees B800. You are correct, a reflector or fill card would have worked in place of the softbox (I had the softbox set to very low power, so it is not adding that much light to the shot).
