The most Welsh of UK postboxes - the only type with the Welsh wording cast in metal.

The only one that I've heard of is a parcel box on the Isle of Man (Douglas). This was a PR stunt by the IOM authorities - the ciphers on these boxes are just vinyl patches. Their photo: ![]() |

Antique mailbox at the railway station in Haaksbergen (the living steamtrain museum MBS)
![]() But I found the sign above it even more interesting ![]() The left column showed "railway time" while the right column showed the corrosponding "local time". In those days the time wasn't standardised yet across the country, let alone time zones as we know today. Every town had their own time, usually based on 12:00 when the sun was at it's highest point. Obviously running railways on time with a different time at every place they came through was not possible so they were one of the first organisations which standardised the time across their network. So at this place "railway time" apparently was 20 minutes earlier than local time. Both A7ii + Tamron 28-200 Di III RXD Edited by pegelli - 11 September 2023 at 20:50 |

Edward VII box at Clonmel station, Ireland.
![]() Ireland's oldest post box and still in daily use after 160 years. Not many of this design were made as a design fault was soon apparent. The flap (now missing) over the upward facing opening wasn't sufficiently watertight to stop rain ingress, its current location at Kent Station in Cork is under cover. ![]() |
